He was a man of strength, deep faith, and a generous heart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">James proudly served in the U.S. Army and later worked as a small business owner, County Executive, and retired from the United States Postal Service. He was respected for his honesty, leadership, and dedication to helping others. Above all, he was a man devoted to his faith, his family, and those around him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Coates and Irma Worley Coates, and his sister, Glenda Weatherspoon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Glenda Burlison Coates; daughters, Ginger Coates James (Jeremy) and Holly Coates Orozco (Octavio); grandchildren: Lauryn (Brandyn) Benfatto, Lindsy Diamante, Anthony Diamante, Courtney James, Jackson Smith, and Chase Orozco; brothers, Andy Coates (Shirley) and Phil Coates (Diane); and several nieces and nephews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">James will be remembered for his love, laughter, and quick wit. His legacy lives on in all who knew and loved him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Visitation for the family will begin at 10:00 AM at McDonald Funeral Home &#8211; Hickman County on 11 June 2025\u00a0 followed by regular visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 PM.\u00a0 The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 PM., with burial to follow at Coates Cemetery, Centerville, TN.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>James Griffin Coates November 26, 1949 \u2013 June 6, 2025, Centerville, TN James Griffin Coates, 75, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025.
