Edwin “Clay” Chandler, of Centerville, Tennessee, was the kind of man who made everyone feel welcome. With a gentle smile, strong handshake, and a heart full of kindness, he lived a life rooted in family, faith and love. On May 1, 2025, Clay left this earthly life at the age of 75. He was born in Only, Tennessee, on July 11, 1949, to the late Bennie Wade and Willie Mary Bates Chandler.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to his parents, Clay is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jennifer Diane Chandler, whose memory he carried with him always, brothers Kenneth Chandler, Carter Chandler, Lehman Chandler and Glenn Chandler. Clay is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of fifty-six years, Linda Chandler of Centerville, Tennessee; sister Jane (John) Gilbert of Centerville, Tennessee, sister Freda Simmerly of Dickson, Tennessee and sister-in-law, Diane (Phillip) Coates of Centerville, Tennessee.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through the years Clay held positions at Discount Tire \u2013 owned by Leonard and Billy Bates, Turney Center and later retired from Universal Fasteners as a maintenance foreman. As a devoted Mason and lifelong member of the Centerville Masonic Lodge #618, Clay was honored to serve as Master twice, dedicating himself to the values of brotherhood and community during his leadership. His commitment to service, continued throughout his life as he faithfully served as a deacon at the Fairfield Church of Christ in Centerville.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clay was a passionate fisherman and a member of the Centerville Bass Club. He loved organizing fish fries for his church, family, and friends, and was always eager to lend a hand in supporting community benefits. Fishing was one of the simple joys that meant the most to him. Just as meaningful were the many trips he shared with his wife, Linda. Together, they traveled across the country, sightseeing, and reconnecting with old friends. They had a special love for Branson, Colorado, returning there several times over the years with his sister-in-law and her husband, Diane and Phillip Coates. When they were home, Clay found comfort in woodworking. He attended many craft shows over the years and his work was admired and enjoyed by people from all over.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clay had one last cherished memory \u2013 his nephew, Brad, took him fishing on the Wednesday before he passed. It was a day filled with peace, laughter, and the strong bond they shared. Whether by the water or on the road, Clay found happiness in the moments spent doing what he loved, with the people he loved most.<\/span><\/p>\n

Visitation with the family will be 4 May 2025 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM with a Masonic Service to begin at 7:00 PM and 5 May 2025 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home, Inc. – Hickman County.\u00a0 Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 PM.\u00a0 Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery, Centerville, TN. <\/span><\/p>\n
