James \u201cMagnum\u201d Vance Scates Jr., known for his loving and adventurous spirit, departed from this life on April 30, 2025, at the age of 66, in Lobelville, Tennessee. He was born on February 27, 1959, in Tampa, Florida, to the late James V Scates Sr. and Marlene Ruth Bodah Scates.<\/span><\/p>\n

Magnum was a devoted husband to his wife, Lisa Carter Scates, with whom he shared a life rich in love and partnership. He is also survived by his son James V Scates III.\u00a0 Magnum’s legacy also lives on through his cherished grandchildren.<\/span><\/p>\n

He is survived by his loving siblings, Vickie Cohen and Micheal Scates, who remember him fondly for his unwavering support and the laughter they shared. James was predeceased by his brother, Robert Scates, and their memories are treasured by all who knew them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Magnum was a man of many talents and interests. A true jack of all trades, he owned and operated a successful vending machine company, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to providing for his family. His work ethic and integrity in business earned him the respect of his colleagues and friends within the industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Outside of his professional life, Magnum’s\u2019 passions were as varied as they were engaging. He was an avid enthusiast of flying remote-controlled planes, a hobby that showcased his love of technology and flight. His hands were rarely still, as he found joy in tinkering with gadgets and machines, always curious about how things worked.<\/span><\/p>\n

A lover of the outdoors, Magnum embraced every opportunity to be outside. Whether it was riding 4-wheelers, exploring trails on side-by-sides, or simply enjoying the company of friends and family around a bonfire, he was happiest surrounded by nature and those he loved. His interest in guns was matched by a deep respect for safety and tradition, often engaging in conversations about history and craftsmanship.<\/span><\/p>\n

Magnum’s\u2019 life was a testament to his belief in staying busy and living each day to the fullest. His infectious enthusiasm encouraged others to seize the moment and make the most of their own lives. His kind and generous spirit made him a friend to many, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.<\/span><\/p>\n
