She was born on November 18, 1934, in Pleasantville, Tennessee, to the late Herschel Revo Chessor and Mattie Adell Horner Chessor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"obituary-text edit\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wilson Ayers; her daughter, Carolyn Faye Ayers; her sisters, Sue (Leslie) Edney and Emma (Herman) Johnson; and her brother, James (Betty) Chessor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"obituary-text edit\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">She is survived by her loving daughter, Melissa (Ron) Ayers Pope; cherished grandson, Ryan D. (Jennifer) Bates; her sisters, Evelyn (Dan) Thompson, Ila (Jimmy) Jenkins, and Linda (Frank) Warfield; and her brothers, Willie (Nancy) Chessor and Granville (Carmonet Bunch) Chessor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"obituary-text edit\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A devoted member of the Centerville Church of Christ, Mattie was known for her love of gardening and took great pride in her flowers and yard.
