Douglas Raymond Barber, Sr. passed peacefully on March 30, 2024, in Columbia, TN. He was born on February 7, 1944, in Hohenwald, TN to the late Oscar and Carolyn Barber.<\/span><\/p>\n

A proud Navy veteran, Doug served his country with honor. After his retirement from the Navy, he began working at the local hardware store, where he became a familiar and trusted face to our community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Doug was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan. His love for NASCAR was matched only by his fondness for a pair of comfortable jeans and the simple pleasure of fishing. A lover of old westerns, Doug could often be found settled in his favorite chair, lost in the tales of cowboys and the old frontier.<\/span><\/p>\n

His family was the cornerstone of Doug’s life. Taco nights with his loved ones were a cherished tradition, filled with laughter and warmth that only togetherness can bring. He adored his children and grandchildren, and his love for his family was evident in every action, every hug, and every word of encouragement.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tony “Pineapple” Barber”; his stepson, Alan James Verdin; his brother, Bobby Barber; and his sister, Betty Barber.<\/span><\/p>\n

He is survived by his loving wife, Roylyn Barber; his son, Douglas (Vicki) Barber, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Gina Barber; his brother, Donnie Barber; his sisters, Laquita (CW) Carroll, and Kathy (Bill) Sharp; step-children, Deborah Ann (Mike) Harden, Robert Noel Verdin, and Gary Lee (Tina) Verdin; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; along with several nieces and nephews.<\/span><\/p>\n

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at McDonald Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with Jerry McDonald and Bill Webb officiating. He will be laid to rest by his son in Lewis County Memorial Gardens.<\/span><\/p>\n
