With heavy hearts, we announce that Kathy departed this life on October 20, 2023, in Florence, Alabama, at the age of 72 years, 10 months, and 12 days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">She was the daughter of the late Ralph Edward Holt and Frances Holt Lawrence. On September 18, 1967, she entered into a lifelong partnership with her loving husband Donald Prater.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In her earlier years, Kathy dedicated her time and talents to Trace Manufacturing Company, where she worked in the sewing department. Later, in 1992, she pursued a new path as a correctional officer at CCA South Central until her retirement in 2015. Despite her professional commitments, Kathy always prioritized what truly mattered to her &#8211; quality time with her grandsons. They held a special place in her heart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">She is survived by her husband Donald Prater of Waynesboro; daughter, Angela Prater Gobbell (Alan) of Hohenwald; brother, Kenneth Holt (Barbara) of Spring Hill; sister-in-law, Margaret Staggs (Dee) of Waynesboro; brother-in-law Ronnie Prater of Clifton; grandsons, Mason Lane Gobbell and Riley Isaac Gobbell of Hohenwald; and several nieces and nephews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In addition to her parents, Kathy is preceded in death by her grandparents, Dovie and Colvert Holt, and Clifford and Loretta Martin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Visitation was held on Monday, October 23, and on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, with Cary Crews and Steven Turnbow officiating. Burial followed in the Memorial Gardens at Waynesboro, with Shackelford Funeral Directors assisting the family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In lieu of flowers the family would like to request memorial donations be made to the Ladies In Pink Society.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathy Belle Holt Prater, a beloved soul who touched the lives of many, was born on December 8, 1950, in Hohenwald.
