Mr. Bates was a teacher and a coach for many years at Lobelville Elementary. He will be remembered always by many former students as &#8220;Coach Bates&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Steve was a member of the Brush Creek Church of Christ. He was a 1983 graduate from Perry County High School, playing both baseball and basketball. He received his B.S. degree from Freed Hardeman University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Steve was preceded in death by his father, Markel Wade Bates. He is survived by his mother, Jane Lewis, of Linden; wife, Paige Graves Bates of Henderson; three sons, Colby Bates and Braden Bates, both of Lexington and Oakley (Kayla) Bates, of Linden; three grandchildren, Knox, Oaklyn, and Reed Bates; one brother, Mark (P J) Bates, of Linden; and many other family members and many friends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in the chapel of Young Funeral Home in Linden.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Steven Wade Bates, 57, passed away June 10, 2022, at his home in Lobelville.
