Katherine Elmer Rosson Winters, age 88, of Columbia, Tennessee passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of April 15, 2019.
Katherine was born on September 3, 1930, in Hickman County, Tennessee to the late Marion “Alex” and Cora Rosson. She married the late Max Winters on March 13, 1950 in Corinth, Mississippi.
Katherine was fondly referred to as “Maw”, she had a heart that treated those she was surrounded by with love, care and kindness and inherited the name “Maw” by not only her family but all those who knew her. She was a soft spoken woman, unless she was watching her Tennessee sports on TV, then she became a cheering fan. Maw loved to quilt; she had a word of advice for quilters: “the secret to a great quilt is small stitches”. In addition to her love for quilting Maw loved to embroider and cook for her family, amongst some of her family’s favorite dishes were her banana pudding and german chocolate cake. She was a member of Sharps Corner Church of Christ.
Katherine is survived by her son, Jack “Butch” Winters and daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Dickson and Ronda (Tom) Pope; grandchildren: Perry (Connie) Winters, Brian (Caitlin) Winters, David (Kim) Smithson, Lee Dickson, Jeff (Rebecca) Parks and Keren (James) Griffith; seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; she is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Katherine was preceded in death by eight brothers, three sisters and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren: David Smithson, Perry Winters, Lee Dickson, Jeff Parks, Brian Winters, Gunner Smithson, Dakota Smithson and Blaine Parks.
The family will visit with friends at McDonald Funeral Home on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Noon with burial in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia, TN.
McDonald Funeral Home of Centerville, Tennessee will be assisting the family with arrangements.
