Elaine Skelton Wherry was born in Dickson, TN on September 20, 1947 to the late Babe Ruth Luther Skelton and James LaGrant Skelton Jr. She passed away in Erin, TN on October 5, 2021 at the age of 74.

Over the years, Elaine worked for Genesco, the Hickman County Times, and the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance as an administrative secretary. Her family described Elaine as fierce. “If she loved you, she loved you fiercely.” She never did anything halfway. She either did it to the fullest extent of her ability or she didn’t at all.

In addition to her parents, Elaine is preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffery Lake.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Lannie H. Wherry; daughters, Vickie Wannene Chatman (Ricky), Gina Lynn McCrary, and Pamela Ruth Wherry Anderson (Brett); sister, Diana Lynn Skelton Fisher; brothers, Danny Skelton and Grant Skelton; six grandchildren, Lillian, Elisha, Rick, Andrea, Lannie, and Christian; as well as sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A funeral service for Elaine Skelton Wherry will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County. Visitation with the Wherry family will be from 9:00 AM until service time. Burial will follow in the Oakmont Cemetery, Centerville, TN.
