Weatherspoon, David A
David is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Diane Dunn Weatherspoon, and his cherished daughters, Kristy Staggs (Johnny) of Centerville and Lori Freeze (Josh) of Lyles. He is also survived by his siblings: Linda (Toby) Warren of Nunnelly, Donna Plotzer of Lyles, James Edward Weatherspoon II of Dickson, and William Weatherspoon of Centerville. Additionally, David leaves behind his sister-in-law, Cindy Ellis and his sister in heart, Wanda Warren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother- and father-in-law, Velma and William Paul Dunn; his sister-in-law, Joyce Weatherspoon; and his brothers-in-law, John Ellis and Eric Plotzer.
David and Diane were married at Wrigley United Methodist Church, where they also baptized their daughters. Later, the family became members of Shipps Bend United Methodist Church in Centerville.
David’s career began at Dunn Ornamental under his father-in-law’s guidance. He later worked with Tencon and Levi’s before retiring from the Town of Centerville Water Department. Known for his quick wit and humor, David was a jokester who brought laughter to everyone, especially Diane. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing trips and frog gigging adventures.
Beyond his humor, David had a deeply artistic side. He wrote and published books featuring characters inspired by his great-nieces and nephews: Libby, Christina, Carol, and Trace.
This past October, David and Diane celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their daughters and sons-in-law at Walt Disney World, enjoying the Halloween festivities. Afterward, they visited one of their favorite retreats, the Norma Dan Hotel in Pigeon Forge, where they savored the tranquility of the mountains. Over the years, the family also created cherished memories on trips to Gulf Shores.
David will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the immense joy he found in his family. He leaves a legacy of love and laughter that will be forever treasured.
