It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Bertha Elizabeth Walker, age 91, of Pleasantville, Tennessee. She was a dedicated a compassionate nurse who touched the lives of countless individuals during her time as a caregiver at the Lifecare Center in Centerville, Tennessee. She departed this world on Sunday, September 17, 2023, with her loving daughter and son-in-law by her side. She left behind a legacy of kindness, empathy, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of her patients.
Bertha Elizabeth Walker was born on June 22, 1932, to the late John Francis Adams and Bertha Elizabeth Payne Adams in Fauquier, Virginia. In addition to her parents Bertha is preceded in death by her brother Edwin Adams, brother John Adams, sister Marilynn Carten, sister Helen Endsley, sister Julia Weber, and former husband, Johnny Walker.
Bertha is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane (Edward) Slayman, of Pleasantville, Tennessee, granddaughter, Jessica Irwin of Paris, Tennessee, grandson Jason Slayman of Columbia, Tennessee and six great grandchildren.
Bertha started her healthcare journey in Virginia, and later moved to Tennessee continuing her nursing career at the Lifecare Center of Centerville. Throughout her sixty plus years in nursing, Bertha had an uncanny ability to connect with people, making them feel valued and heard. After retirement she was bored so she went back to work fulfilling her passion as a nurse.
Her dedication was an inspiration to her colleagues, and her wisdom, a guiding light for those entering the field of nursing. She tirelessly worked long hours, often going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure her patients received the best care possible.
Beyond her professional life she was a cherished friend, loving family member, and pillar of support and strength for her loved ones. Bertha will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation with the family will be 21 Sep 2023 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home, Inc. – Hickman County. Graveside Services will be held 22 Sep 2023 at 2:00 PM at Chessor Cemetery.
