Jonas Henry Vanderley Sr passed on August 19, 2024, at the age of 86. He was firstborn of Benjamin Dale Vanderley and Clella Marie Merritt Vanderley in Des Moines, Iowa on July 18, 1938.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, first wife Karen Kaster Crawford, second wife Barbara Gullett, third wife Barbara Schneider, as well as his son, Jonas Henry Vanderley Jr, and his daughter Gay Ann Vanderley Mooney, step-son Joe Gullett, and firstborn granddaughter Anjelica Jo Ann Daniels.

He is survived by his daughters Denise Vanderley Dickerson, Melanie Sue Vanderley Eiland, both of Hohenwald, sisters Joy Ann Vanderley (Ski) Oknewski, and Carole Sue Vanderley Spainhower. Grandchildren include: Christina Renee Daniels, Leo Mooney, Steven Tylar Heintz, Nicole Blair Dickerson, Abigail Claire Dickerson, Anna Grace Dickerson Roberts (Davy), Rachel Palmiere Nyx (Dave), Samuel Gordon Dickerson and Jonas Paul Dickerson. Great grandchildren include: Aleah Hope Ann Geiger, Joel McDuffie, Bradley Bailey, D’Jay Bailey, Tonia Daniels, and Patrick Daniels. Great-great grandchildren: Cain Corey Jones, Gracelyn Hope Ann Sapp, Laykyn AnnMarie Huggins, and Clinton James Washington.

He grew up on a farm in Afton, Iowa, and lived without electricity and running water until the age of 13. He married at the age of 17. He served in the US Navy on the USS Diodon, a diesel submarine from 1957-1960. He was an artisan wood craftsman and enjoyed his wood shop until the end.
