Turnbow, Craig Nelson
Craig Nelson Turnbow, age 72, of Knoxville, TN, passed away November 25, 2019. A native of Hohenwald, TN, he was born on August 3, 1947 in Hohenwald, TN to the late Henry Ford Turnbow and Dorothy Mae (Peevyhouse) Turnbow. A graduate of The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and the University of Houston with multiple degrees in civil engineering and business administration, Craig’s career spanned 50 years as an engineer and business consultant. Beloved by family and friends, he was involved in a number of community activities including founder of the Farragut Youth Baseball Instructional League, past president of the Cedar Bluff – Farragut optimist club, and what he would consider as one of his favorite activities as “coach Turnbow” for a variety of youth baseball and basketball teams. A faithful member of Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church in Knoxville, he served on a number of church committees as well as an usher welcoming those to Sunday service. A lifelong enthusiast of the Tennessee Volunteers, he enjoyed attending/watching football, basketball, and baseball games with his family and friends with his trademark “Go Big Orange” after every win. In his most recent years, Craig was very involved with the Lewis County Educational Foundation with the establishment of a scholarship fund for Lewis County High School students to further their education (Dorothy Turnbow Memorial Scholarship). He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Betty Fraley Turnbow; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Angela Turnbow of Murfreesboro, TN, son, Eric Turnbow of Kingston, TN, and son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Catherine Turnbow of Newnan, GA; mother-in-law, Louise Kindred of Hohenwald, TN; four grandchildren Reagan, Sloan, Carter & Collin Turnbow who affectionately called him Grandad. Visitation with the family will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald, TN on Friday, November 29, 2019, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at the Hohenwald First United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with Reverend Bruce Galyon officiating. Burial will follow after services in the Swiss Cemetery, Hohenwald, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the Lewis County Educational Fund (Dorothy Turnbow Memorial Scholarship Fund) or the Hohenwald First United Methodist Church.
