Truett, Marvin Wayne
Marvin Wayne Truett, of Nunnelly, TN, passed from this world to his eternal home on January 23, 2023.
Marvin was born on April 29, 1955 to the late Raymond L. Truett and Betty Jo McCaleb Truett. He married his high school sweetheart, Lisa Harvill, on July 18, 1981. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage.
Along with his wife, Lisa, Marvin is survived by his mother, Betty Jo Truett; daughter, Tara (Clay) Chessor; son, Caleb (Paige) Truett; and brother, Mark (Tina) Truett, along with many other family and friends. He was also “Poppa” to five grandchildren: Braydon, Bryson, and Brody Chessor; Ella and Mabry Truett.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond L. Truett, father-in-law, Wayne Harvill, and mother-in-law, Martha Harvill.
Marvin was a people person and never met a stranger. After working as a mail carrier for over 25 years, as well as living in Hickman County for all of his life, he seemed to know almost everyone. He loved sports, especially the University of Tennessee and the Atlanta Braves, and was quick to strike up a conversation about those teams with anyone willing to listen. He also loved Hickman County High School baseball and worked for a number of years as a volunteer in the concession stand for all of their home games. He was a mainstay as well at Doyle and Fay Bowen Park where he loved to watch his grandkids play baseball and softball.
Marvin enjoyed the small things in life such as a beautiful sunrise and a good cup of coffee. He would wake up early even after retiring to enjoy “his time of the day,” often sitting on his patio with coffee and a devotional to begin each morning. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was simply sitting, going for a walk on the beach, working in his garden, or fishing with his friends and family. He was “Poppa” to his grandkids; and they all enjoyed tractor rides, fishing at the pond, and snuggling in his recliner. He was always one of the first to receive a photo by text when they caught a big fish they wanted to brag about. Marvin was a dedicated family man and always faithful to attend the events and happenings that involved his kids and grandkids. He was also faithful to the Lord and his home congregation, Fairfield Church of Christ.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, January 27, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, and Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens, Centerville, TN.
Memorial donations can be made to the Fairfield Church of Christ youth programs, or to the Centerville Church of Christ youth in Marvin’s memory.
