Mary Jane Thurman, of Hohenwald, TN was born October 17, 1938, and passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at the age of 86, in her makeshift tent, the place she proudly called home for over 30 years.

True to her nature, Mary Jane lived life on her own terms—simple, unburdened, and free. She embraced the beauty in simplicity, finding contentment in the quiet and the uncomplicated.

Though her lifestyle was unconventional, those who knew her admired her independence and resilience. Mary Jane’s life serves as a reminder that happiness is found not in possessions but in the courage to live authentically.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Janet Thurman, grandfather, John F. Ross, and grandmother, Pearlie Mae Secrest Ross.

A private graveside service was held and conducted by those she was closest to at Davis-Oak Grove Cemetery on November 22, 2024, where she was laid to rest beside her mother.
