Tharp, Jack D
Reverend Jack D. Tharp, a cherished faith leader and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, in his hometown of Hohenwald. Born on November 25, 1931, to Jessie and Elmer Tharp, he was a ray of light and a pillar of strength to all who knew him.
From a young age, Reverend Tharp felt a profound calling to serve. His journey with the Pentecostal church began at a young age in Akron, Ohio. It was there that he discovered his true passion for ministry, commencing his preaching at the tender age of 16 and embarking on his evangelistic ministry just a year later. Renowned for his remarkable ability to commit large portions of the Bible to memory, Reverend Tharp was a true Scriptorium, delivering sermons and messages that touched the hearts of many.
In one of his earliest revivals at Napier Pentecostal Church, he met the love of his life, June Elizabeth Hardin. They wed in 1953, and their loving union was a testament to their devotion, spanning an incredible 70 years. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Donna Gale Tharp-Anderson, who would later bless them with four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The love and lessons he imparted to his family remain a precious legacy.
Reverend Tharp shepherded three churches within Tennessee: Morris Chapel Pentecostal Church, Lawrenceburg United Pentecostal Church, and Napier Pentecostal Church, where he concluded his pastoral career after 22 years of dedicated service. His unwavering commitment to the United Pentecostal Church and the Tennessee district spanned an extraordinary 67 years of ministry.
Those who knew Reverend Tharp will remember him as faith-filled, loving, and kind – words that only begin to capture his spirit and generous heart. He was a man who lived by example, guiding others through his actions and his unwavering commitment to his faith.
Visitation with family and friends as held at the Sanctuary UPC on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m.
A man of God to the very end, it seems only fitting that Reverend Tharp’s final journey on this earth will conclude at the Napier Cemetery, a place close to the community he so dearly loved and served.
