Stewart, James Roy
James Roy Stewart, 90, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday April 8, 2025.
He and his twin brother Troy were born on March 9, 1935, to William Peyton Stewart and Vonnie Mangrum Stewart. Roy and Troy were the last of 11 siblings, they were born at home on Sulphur Creek in Coble, Tennessee. Roy loved to tell the story of how they let school out and the children walked to see the newborn twins. All siblings, including beloved twin Troy, have all passed. Roy is the last of his immediate family.
Roy was happy to be the graphic artist at Tencon. This was before the computer age. He drew all the artwork by hand on draft boards as large as rooms. A few examples are Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, hotel and gas station signs, which are all over the world to this day. Most of all he loved his family and neighbors. Basically, everyone he met. He loved nature, creeks and the woods he lived in. Roy enjoyed family gatherings with large meals. Everyone knows Roy’s talent and gift was painting. A passion he expressed all his life.
Left to cherish his memory are his two children, Darlene Stewart Embry (Dennis) and Keith Wayne Stewart. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Thomas (Persy), Cody (Bethany), Stormy (Amber), Shannon, Rebecca, Shawnee (Dodge), Cheyenne, and Lakota. His legacy also lives on through 13 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be 11 Apr 2025 from 11:oo AM – 1:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County with Funeral Services to begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery, Coble, TN.
