Staggs, Melvis Virginia
Melvis Virginia Staggs was called home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2023. She was born in Perry County on December 18, 1929, to the late Bob Barham and Edna Mae Bell Barham.
On June 1, 1949, Melvis was united in holy matrimony with her beloved Leroy Staggs. Melvis was not only a wife but a true helpmate to Leroy, providing support, love, and companionship.
Melvis was a faithful member of the Springer Church of Christ, where she served the Lord with gladness and brought joy to all who knew her. Her love for the Lord was evident in her daily life, from her diligent study of the Bible to her unwavering commitment to serving God and serving others.
She found peace in her garden, caring for each plant with the same love and care she gave to her family and friends. Her passion for bird watching showed her appreciation for God’s creation, a hobby that brought her peace and joy. An avid reader, she found wisdom in the pages of countless books, but none more so than her cherished Bible.
Melvis was a people person. She had a gift for making people feel seen and heard, for finding the good in everyone she met. She was a great mother and a wonderful friend. She raised her children to love one another and to love the Lord above all else. Her loving nature and faith-filled spirit touched not only her family but all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Bob and Edna Barham, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Leroy Staggs, and her sister, Marjorie Graves.
She leaves behind to honor and cherish her memory, her loving children, Kay (Scotty) Duncan, Gary (Denise) Staggs, and Stephen (Kim) Staggs; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
