Staggs, Jo Ann Burns
Jo Ann Staggs, a cherished matriarch and a woman of love and passion, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, in Columbia, TN. Born on January 18, 1941, in the quaint town of Hohenwald, Jo Ann grew up to embody the virtues of thoughtfulness and unconditional love that she was so widely known for.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Oliver and Annie Peters Burns, her devoted husband, Oddie Lee Staggs, and their treasured son, Michael Wayne Staggs; as well as her granddaughter Ashlee Loren King. She leaves behind a legacy of love and nurturing through her children, Ricky Lee Staggs (Cheryl), Janice Giles, and Teri Simmons (Bobby). Jo Ann’s brother, Harold “Pete” Burns (Beverly), will carry forward the memories of their shared childhood and life’s milestones. Her grandchildren, Britany Sublett, Ryan Lee Staggs (Payton),” and five cherished great-grandchildren, will continue to keep her memory going.
Jo Ann’s life was one of simple pleasures and connections. Her gardens were a testament to her patience and her ability to cultivate beauty in every corner of her life. She found joy in the rhythms of canning, preserving not just the bounties of her garden but also the essence of her care for future generations to enjoy. Camping trips were filled with laughter and the warmth of a campfire, while her cooking brought comfort and a sense of home to all who were lucky enough to experience it.
A doting grandmother, Jo Ann’s happiest moments were those spent with her grandkids, whether she was babysitting or simply being present in their lives, her passion for her family shone through. Her love for shopping, visiting the Amish, and exploring flea markets was not just about the treasures she found but the joy of the hunt and the shared experiences with friends and family.
Jo Ann’s visitation was held on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Blondy Church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m. The service celebrated her life, her kindness, and her enduring impact on all who knew her. Burial followed at Staggs Cemetery, where she was laid to rest surrounded by the nature she so adored and the family who cherished her.
