Staggs, Alton Brent
Alton Brent Staggs, aged 73, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024, in Centerville with his wife by his side. He was born on February 10, 1951, in Lawrenceburg, to the late Elvie and Mary Louise McClain Staggs.
Brent dedicated 43 years to law enforcement, a testament to his love and commitment to justice and public safety. Brent also served his community as a volunteer firefighter for 17 years. His bravery and selflessness were the cornerstones of his character, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all. In addition to serving his community through law enforcement and the fire department, he also spent numerous years working for Murray Ohio, and then later retired from TDOT.
A man of many talents and interests, Brent was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and embarked on big game hunts that created memories to last a lifetime. Brent was a creative woodworker, oil painter, and a jack of all trades.
He had a love for the Smoky Mountains and spent many cherished moments there with those he held dear. But above all, his ability to relate to anyone made him a beloved figure. His humor was infectious; he was always ready with a joke or a laugh, brightening the days of all those around him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Cletus Staggs, James Staggs, Betty Mayberry, Monnie Staggs, and Dessie Nell Skelton.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 43 years, Evonne Staggs; his sister, Inos Chessor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with Brent’s family will be on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Lewis County. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with Steve Holloway officiating. Burial services will follow in Loveless Cemetery, Hohenwald, TN.
