Smith, Bonnie J
Bonnie J. Smith, 83, was born May 5, 1941 in Hohenwald, and was raised in the Eagle Creek Community in Wayne County. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Annie Staggs. She attended school in Clifton, worked at Clifton Manufacturing for 39 years and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Bonnie and her former husband, Roy Smith, were blessed with a son Roger Smith of Waynesboro and friend Jenilyn Sipes; a daughter Kathy Smith of Lawrenceburg; grandson Josh Tatum (Janie) of Lawrenceburg; granddaughters, Chesney York (Tyler) and Kennedy Smith of Waynesboro; great-grandchildren, Camila and Cate York of Waynesboro; Bently and Baily Tatum of Lawrenceburg; nephew Tony Staggs of Loretto. She is also survived by special friends David Woods, Karen Smith, Linda Rushing, and Debbie Russell
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Ross, Gene and Ray Staggs and a grandson, Matt Tatum.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 18, 2024 with Ricky Nelson officiating with a eulogy by David Woods at Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Waynesboro. Interment followed in Walker Cemetery on Eagle Creek.
Those honored to serve as pallbearer include: Scott Smith, John Scoggins, Mike Rushing, Donnie Runions, Jerry Martin and Josh Tatum.
Honorary Pallbearers included Tony Staggs, David Woods and Kenny Smith.
In Bonnie’s golden years, she was not a burden, but a blessing to all who knew her. “Mama, we will see you again when it is our time to join you in heaven.”
