Skelton, Merle Loy
Merle Loy Whitehead Skelton passed away Sunday, March 3rd after on extended illiness. Mrs. Skelton was born June 11, 1936 in Wyandotte, MI to the late Horace and Mary Alice Churchwell Whitehead.
Mrs. Skelton graduated from Lewis Co. High School and attended Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN. Mrs. Skelton worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for Chevrolet car dealerships in Hohenwald, Clarksville and Lawrenceburg. She retired from Chuck Brewer Chevrolet in Lawrenceburg due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. She was a longtime member of the Hohenwald Cumberland Presbyterian Church and local Eastern Star. She was very active in both, singing in the church choir as well as playing both the piano and organ. Mrs. Skelton was very talented and enjoyed sharing her talents with others. She excelled in sewing, quilting, ceramics, cooking and bread baking. She enjoyed being outside walking, swimming, working in her garden and flowers.
Mrs. Skelton is survived by her husband of 60 years, William “Bill” Lovick Skelton, a sister Doris Whitehead Hawkins of Cookeville, several loving nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Visitation with the family will take place on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at McDonald Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM with Andy Baker and Steve Skelton officiating. Burial will follow in the Swiss Cemetery, Hohenwald, TN.
