Shackelford, Don A
Don Andrews Shackelford, 81, of Franklin, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at Lakeshore the Meadows in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was born in Columbia, Tennessee, on April 4, 1939, to Phillips Molloy and Mary Gordon Shackelford. His father tragically passed away when Don was only 2 years old. His mother then remarried Don’s step father, John Gill Thompson of Centerville, Tennessee.
Don grew up in Centerville. He was a member of the Hickman County Bulldog football team and the class of 1957. He left for college straight out of high school. There, he met and married his wife Mary Ann.
Don graduated from Middle Tennessee State College and later graduated from The University of Oklahoma with a Master of Environmental Science. He worked for The State of Tennessee for 30 years in various jobs, ending in The Department of Environment and Conservation. His fondest memories of work always induced his time working in the field.
He spent numerous days and hours with friends and family hunting, fishing and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers. He was even lucky enough to go to Alaska twice where he caught his limit of Halibut and Salmon daily.
Don was a very loving and giving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary Ann; Son Phillip Shackelford, Dickson, Tennessee; Daughters Lee Ann Fields (Ray) Smyrna, Tennessee and Katie Cherry (Clay) Dover, Tennessee; Brother Dr. John Gill Thompson, Jr. (Gail).
