Schmidt, Kevin Lane
Kevin Lane Schmidt, passed away on January 23, 2026, in Linden. Tennessee. Born on December 20, 1953, in Evanston, Illinois to the late Marvin and Shirley Poole Schmidt, Kevin’s life was a testament to the joy and love he brought into the world.
Kevin’s early life was spent in Evanston with his brothers, Allan Scott Grey who married Chris, Roger Schmidt who married Sheila, and Jim Schmidt who married Marilyn. In 1987, Kevin married Renee Denise Halstead-Schmidt in Tucson, Arizona. He, along with his three sons welcomed her into their family and together, the five of them began a new chapter of adventures.
Kevin is survived by his wife Renee, his sons, Nathaniel David Schmidt, Joshua Mark Mathis, and was preceded in death by the late Daniel Adam Schmidt, who was lovingly called home to be with Jesus in 1996. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Nathan A. Schmidt Emma L.D. Schmidt. and Tavlor K. Mathis
Kevin’s life was marked by his intrepid spirit and his investment in the people around him. Never afraid of a challenge, in 2001 Kevin and his wife Renee, moved to Linden, Tennessee to realize their dream of running a mom-and-pop shop. Together, they opened “Dimples,” an eclectic establishment offering healthy food, exceptional coffee, and one-of-a-kind gifts. Dimples quickly became a cornerstone of Linden’s downtown scene. As the town’s oldest downtown merchant at the time of its closing, Kevin’s role extended beyond that of a business owner; he was a friend, a confidant, and a craftsman. His passion for creation was evident in his work as a baker, and a carpenter, and through his business, Kevin’s Lock Solutions, he provided a sense of security and service to those around him.
Music and performance were vital threads in the fabric of Kevin’s life. For many years, he played with bands in Arizona and Tennessee. Locally he played with the Pineview Gospel Singers. His talents both writing and performing music brought joy to many. Together with Renee, they formed the Linden Vaudeville Players as a way to teach and mentor high school students through performing arts. For years they brought light into the lives of youth and laughter and applause to the stage. Their dedication to nurturing the arts among the youth created strong relationships that have made a lasting impact on the lives of many.
For so many years, Kevin’s life was a reflection of the friendly, and generous spirit God gave him. His legacy will live on in the memories of his family many friends he made along the way. There are many who will forever remember the kindness and laughter he shared so freely.
Kevin will be laid to rest with his son Danny at Christ Church Memorial Gardens in Nashville, TN. A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held on February 17th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Commodore Hotel in Linden. In honor of Kevin’s love of “pitch in meals” the family is asking those who attend to bring a dish to share. This gathering will be an opportunity for all who knew and loved him to reflect on his life, share stories, and find comfort in the community who cherished him so deeply.
