Richardson, Charles L
Charles Leon Richardson, beloved father, also known affectionately as “Chuck” or “Lonnie” to family and friends, passed away on October 28th, 2023, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia after a short illness, at the age of 80.
Charles, one of five children, was born October 7th, 1943, to Clyde and Geneva Richardson where he was lovingly raised in the Piney Community in Lawrence County, Tennessee.
Charles proudly served Tennessee as a dedicated law enforcement officer for 31 years. He began his law enforcement career, working as a Police Officer at the City of Waynesboro. He worked there for five years until he was hired by the Tennessee Highway Patrol in 1973. He was assigned to THP’s 6th District for two years before transferring to the 8th District. It was there he was promoted to Sergeant and served for thirteen years until transferring back to his home county in the 7th District in 1989. In his home district he was promoted to Lieutenant where he continued to serve until his retirement in 2000. Charles also proudly served his country as member of the Tennessee Army National Guard for 14 years.
Charles never met a stranger, and he was always smiling. He was a gentle and kind man. He loved animals and children, and they instinctively gravitated towards him, sensing his gentle nature. His presence had the power to soothe and uplift those around him.
Charles was a dedicated Christian, and member of the Pulaski Street Church of Christ.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Geneva Crews Richardson, and Clyde Porter Richardson.
He is survived by his sisters Allene Byrd (Grady), Carol Battle (Jim), and brothers Jim Richardson (Vicky) and Glenn (Angelean).
He is also survived by his four children. Darryl Richardson (Amy), Greg Richardson (Susan), Sara Ress (Josh), and Jon Richardson (Stephanie), and grandchildren Steven Richardson (Teya), Stephanie Spears (Marcus), Cady Webb (Jerry), Grayson Richardson, Parker June Richardson, Austyn King and Laekyn King and six great-grandchildren Sutton Richardson, Jett Richardson, Crew Richardson, Finley Spears, Landon and Harper Webb.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held at Pulaski Street Church of Christ in Lawrenceburg on November 11, 2023, at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.
