Rawdon, Melissa J
In the late evening hours on January 15, 2021 Mrs. Melissa Jeanette (Lyell) Rawdon completed her journey here on earth at the age of 62. Mrs. Rawdon was born in Centerville on March 28,1958 to Ms. Edith Barber Lyell and the late Abner Lyell. Along with her father she was preceded in death by her father-in-law Harlan Rawdon. In July of 1976 she married her true soul mate Barry Michael “Mike” Rawdon, and together raised three amazing children.
Sister Lisa as many knew her was a pillar to our small community with her dedication in the Lord and those she served. She served many years at Blondy Church of God, she was an ordained minister at Panoramic Full Gospel Church and most recently faithfully attended Central Christian Fellowship. She lived every day to serve the Lord and has created a path for many to follow. She would take the time to sit and pray with many families in Lewis County. Mrs. Rawdon essentially took on the title of caretaker and dedicated her time to those in need. She grew up in a church setting and began playing the keyboard at the age of 12 during Sunday services. This would lead to her passion of playing the piano. Many memories were made around the piano with her family close by. When she had quiet time, she was known to enjoy sewing, gardening, catching up on events with friends, and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. Her infectious smile could light up any room and her hugs could take away all worries one could feel in the moment. She had such a nurturing, loving heart and giving soul that her memory and legacy will carry on for years to come.
Along with her husband of 44 years, Mr. Mike she is survived by her children Barry (Heather) Rawdon, Emily (Jonathan) Barnes, and Sarah (Jonathan) Conner; grandchildren Madeleine Rawdon, Brinley Conner, Evelyn Rawdon, Corbin Conner, and Everett Barnes; brothers Tim Lyell (Leslie) and Greg Lyell; brother in laws Larry Rawdon (Rita), John Rawdon (Vicky), and Paul Rawdon (Tresa); and mother-in-law Della Nestor.
Visitation with family and friends will be held at Blondy Church of God on Sunday January 17, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Monday, January 18, 2021 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 18, 2021 with brothers Bill Webb, Jimmy Turnbow, and Chris Bean officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Davis-Oak Grove Cemetery in Hohenwald, TN.
Donations may be made to the Lewis County Cancer Victim Funds in lieu of flowers.
