Quillen, David L
David L. Quillen was born on July 28, 1943 in Nashville to Emmett and Eva Quillen of Hohenwald. He passed at his home in Gulfport, Florida on July 19, 2021 with his wife of 50 years holding his hand.
David was a 1961 graduate of Lewis County High School where he played football and the trumpet. He graduated from Tennessee Tech University Class of 1965. There he was a member of the Sigma Phi Delta fraternity which, after legalization of fraternities, became Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He helped memberships in the Austin Healey Clubs of Tampa Bay and of America. He was Sebring Fan-of-the-Year 2004. Before his illness he was a golfer, tennis, basketball, and softball player. He had been employed by US Gypsum, Jim Walter Research, Bilmar Beach Resort/Paradise Golf and Tennis Club and Newberg Irrigation. His greatest loves were his family, his Austin Healey 3000, and the 12 hours of Sebring.
He is survived by his wife, Margot Baltz Quillen; daughter, Tonya B. Quillen; grandsons, Charles S. and Russell J. Hyman; nieces, Ericka Baltz (Dom) Marini and Heather Baltz (Andrews) Deitchman; nephews, Evan (Abby) Lawson, Andy (Lauren) Lawson and J.T. (Kristen) Baltz; brothers-in-law, Bill (Kelly) Baltz and Bill Lawson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jane Quillen Lawson.
