Franklin Parks, a cherished family man, firefighter, and avid NASCAR enthusiast, passed away at the age of 79 on January 1, 2025, in Columbia, Tennessee. Born on September 4, 1945, in Tucson, Arizona, to the late Harold and Ruth Parks, Franklin grew up with a passion for service and mechanics that would shape his life’s work and hobbies.
Franklin’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, community, and country. He is survived by his loving wife, Gayle Chambles Parks, with whom he built a life filled with joy and purpose. Together, they raised their children Brenda Parks Cribbs and Oma Michele Buster, and cherished the memory of their late daughter, Melody Ann Parks. Franklin is also survived by his grandchildren, David Scott Reed, Destiny Megan Behringer- Allison, Tiffany Michele Reed, Heather Nicole Reed, and Cheyenne Jo Buster, who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his grandchild, Amber Lynn Reed.
A proud marine veteran, Franklin served his country with honor and distinction. His commitment to service continued long after his military career as he became an integral part of the South 40 Fire Department (SO40 VFD). His colleagues and friends at the fire department will remember him as a kind and wise mentor, always ready to lend a hand or share a word of advice.
Franklin’s love for mechanics found a special place in the world of NASCAR. His involvement with the sport was not just a pastime but a passion that he pursued with enthusiasm. He was happiest when he was working on cars or cheering on his favorite drivers, and his knowledge of the sport was both vast and impressive.
Those who knew Franklin would describe him as a loving individual whose kindness touched everyone he met. He lived his life as a devoted Christian, with a faith that guided him and provided comfort to those around him.
The impact of Franklin’s life was immeasurable, and his absence will be felt deeply by his family, friends, and the community he served so selflessly. As a dedicated firefighter, he taught others the value of courage and commitment. As a family man, he exemplified the virtues of love, patience, and kindness. And as a friend, he was always there to offer support and guidance.
Visitation with family and friends will be held in the chapel of Adair Funeral & Cremation services on Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 6, 2024, at 2:00 pm with burial to follow at Grassy Valley Cemetery in Hohenwald, TN.
