O’Rear, Louise Hines
Louise Hines O’Rear, 90, known to many as “Moma O”, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at her residence following an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 30 at 11:00 a, at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home in Columbia with Reverend Tony Brown officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Highland Rim, Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude’s Hospital for Children of Jude’s House for the families of sick children. A native of the Cross Bridges Community, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Rosabelle Holt Hines She was married to John B O’Rear, who preceded her in death of December 26, 1994. She was a devoted mother, homemaker, and a member of the Cross Bridges Baptist Church. In 1932, she and her sister, Lucille Ray, began operating a pie wagon on South Main Street in Columbia. Later, they opened Louise and Lucille’s Restaurant, which they operated until the end of World War II. She and her sister, Edna Lyles, worked for years as cafeteria managers at the old Union Carbide Plant in Columbia. Survivors include two daughter, Linda O’Rear of Columbia and Anita (A. J.) Williams of Fayetteville; one sister, Clarice (Ralph) Ussery of Columbia; three grandchildren, Danny, Angie and Julia Williams; several niece, nephews, and special friends, Kenny and Debbie Green. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Lucille Ray, Mary Prince, Laura Griffin, Edna Lyles, and Elizabeth “Lib” Malugin; and four brothers, Polk, Powell, Austin and Robert “Red” Hines, Jr.
