O’Guin, Derrell Anthony
Derrel Anthony O’Guin was born on August 7, 1953 in Coble, Tennessee and passed away at his home in Coble on October 28, 2022. He was 69 years old. He lived his whole life in Coble area of Hickman County or as he called it “God’s Country”.
He is the son of the late AP and Mildred Laverne Springer O’Guin.
He was also preceded in death by his brother Donny O’Guin.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Charlotte Mayberry O’Guin of Coble. Sons Derrick (Tara) O’Guin of Coble and Dakota O’Guin of Coble. Grandsons Luke (Abigail) O’Guin, Dylan O’Guin, and Daxton O’Guin. Sisters Linda Wright, Patricia Gilbert, Cheryl McNabb and Myra Johnston. Along with several nieces, nephews, friends, and other loved ones.
He was a cabinet maker and ran O’Guin Woodworking for 35 years. He loved what he did and made a lot of cabinets over the years. He even made some poplar shelving for Johnny Cash (who he got to meet) that is still in the house at Johnny’s Bon Aqua Farm. Even after retiring he still did woodworking and made knife and gun boxes for his sons and grandsons.
Derrel loved to be outdoors. He was an avid hunter but more than anything he loved to go fishing. He spent a lot of time on the Tennessee and Duck Rivers. In 2020 he hauled in a 46 pound yellow cat with some assistance from Derrick and Tara. He was a great story teller and liked to reminisce on the good ole days. He was known to embellish his stories with his own goofy humor. He liked to watch westerns like Gunsmoke and Bonanza. In these later years his Yamaha side by side was one of his favorite tools. Daily he would ride to the mailbox, down to the creek, or take the trash off to the dump.
He especially loved spending time with his family. Time with the grandkids was most precious. They loved sitting and talking, hearing his stories, riding to the creek, throwing rocks in the water, and just being with him. He will be missed deeply by all those who knew and loved him.
Visitation with the family will be 2 November 2022 from 12:oo – 2:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00 PM. Bill McDonald is to officiate services.
