O’Brien, Gary L
Gary L. O’Brien, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, in Hohenwald, Tennessee, at the age of 83. Born in Mankato, Minnesota, on February 27, 1942, to Arthur and Elayne Glynn O’Brien, both of whom predeceased him, Gary’s life was a display of dedication, service, and family devotion.
Gary’s early years in Mankato were a precursor to a life full of adventure and commitment. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1966, becoming a part of the 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of discipline that he carried throughout his life.
Upon returning to civilian life, Gary found his calling in the world of insurance. As a trusted Barber Insurance Agent, he provided security and comfort to countless families, always going the extra mile to ensure their peace of mind. His work was not just a job but a way to connect with and support his community.
Gary’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of his existence, guiding him in every aspect of his life. He lived his beliefs through his actions, embodying the love and kindness that he held so dear. His family was his pride and joy, and he leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to flourish for generations.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn “Bonnie” Winters O’Brien, who was his partner in all things and his rock throughout their marriage. His son, Christopher J. O’Brien, will carry on his father’s legacy of integrity and strength. Gary was a cherished grandfather to Garrett, Collin, Zachery, Megan, and Peyton O’Brien and a proud great-grandfather to Harrison O’Brien. His daughter-in-laws, Kathy and Tara O’Brien, and step-grandchildren, Sicily Appal, Tate Trullinger, and Bradley Trullinger, will remember his warmth and guidance. Gary was predeceased by his infant daughter, Kymberly R. O’Brien, and sons, Martin T. O’Brien and Michael T. O’Brien, whom he held close to his heart until the end.
A celebration of life memorial service will take place at a later time. Adair Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
