Richard E. “Dick” Nelson, 81, formerly of Hohenwald, died Friday, November 27, 2009 in Vero Beach, Florida. Arrangements were under the direction of Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach, Florida. He was born May 29, 1928 in Yakima, Washington and lived in Short Hills and Livingston, New Jersey before moving to Vero Beach in 1965 with his family. He moved to Hohenwald in 2006. Before retirement, he was a stock broker in New York City and later in Vero Beach. He also operated the Riviera Restaurant in Vero Beach. He belonged to St. Helen Catholic Church and later to Holy Cross Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Nelson of Hohenwald; three sons, Rick Nelson of Bald Head Island, North Carolina, Dan and Tom Nelson of Vero Beach; two daughters, Megan Nelson of Vero Beach, and Courtney Keeton of Hohenwald; three brothers, Bob Nelson of Texas, Bill and Tom Nelson of Denver, Colorado; three sisters, Mary Ann Bogan and Betty Jane Nelson, both of Denver, Colorado, and Pat Shiels of St. Augustine, Florida; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Celine Nelson. At the request of the family, no services were planned other than a private family service to be held at a later date.
