Mitchell, Mary Vivian
Mary Vivian Shannon Peppers Mitchell passed away in the early morning of August 9, 2023. She was cared for at Alive Hospice during her last few days in Nashville with the gentle hands and loving care of her doctors, nurses and caregivers. Mama suffered from Alzheimer’s for a few years but a smile never ever left her face, stated her daughter.
She is survived by her three daughters: Sandra Peppers of Smyrna, Linda Hays of Savannah and Sheri Cotham of Nolensville; three granddaughters, Carla Moyer ( Brian), Mary K. Hays, and Christi Hale ( Mark); three great-grandchildren, Kenna Rayn and Everly Grace Moyer and Crockett Lee Hale; one great great grandson, Hutton Hays; also, several nieces and nephews.
Mary was born in Lawrence County at home. Her parents were Eldred and Ethel Shannon. She was the fifth child of seven children and the last survivor among her immediate family.
She worked for Levi Strauss in Centerville for many years. After her retirement, she moved with her husband, Ernest Mitchell, to Scott’s Hill. She later went to work for the post office part time in that town.
Her daughter stated, Mother took us to church every Sunday without fail. United Methodist Church. And she loved her Lord and she loved her family fiercely! She was a beautiful seamstress and made many of our clothes. She also kept a very tidy home and welcoming all into our home and her future home. She was an amazing cook. If you were in her home, she fed you.
We all loved her so and she was loved by so many, as well. Mama always had a ready smile for everyone and a hand to help those in need. We will miss her without measure. Heaven has gained an angel.
