Meador, Melvin Whitaker
Services for Melvin Whitaker Meador, 97 of Centerville, who died on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at St. Thomas Hickman Nursing Home, will be held on Friday December 13, 2019 at the Centerville United Methodist Church.
A native of the Leatherwood community, Mr. Meador was the husband of Minnie Lou Harvill Meador, and the son of the late Howard Whitaker and Lily Pearl White Meador. He worked as an engineer for Meriweather Lewis Electric Cooperative for 37 years.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Meador served as an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Force. He held the office of Alderman for the town of Centerville and Commissioner for Hickman County. He was a member of the Centerville United Methodist Church for 72 years, filling almost every role, from Lay Leader and Trustee to building maintenance supervisor. He was an avid gardener and also enjoyed camping, golf and fishing.
Mr. Meador was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Johnson and a brother, Fain Meador.
He is survived by two sons, Melvin Douglas (Mary) Meador of Panama City, FL, and Thomas Howard Meador of Centerville, a daughter Marilyn (Michael) Payne of Christiansburg, Virginia, a brother Harold (Reba) Meador of Columbia, a sister Lurline (Fred) Elliott of Columbia, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held on 13 Dec 2019 beginning at 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County. His funeral service will be 14 Dec 2019 at 10:00 AM at Centerville United Methodist Church, Centerville, TN and will be led by Rev. James C. Norton and Rev. David Spencer. Burial will follow at in Little Lot Cemetery, Duck River, TN.
