William Terry Coop, age 78 of Hohenwald, TN passed away at his home on Thursday, April 9, 2020 surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on April 11, 1941 in Tullahoma, TN to the late William Harlan Coop & Mary Louise (Grammar) Coop.

He spent his life in service to his country. On June 2, 1966 he was released from the Air Force Reserves and enlisted in the United States Air Force on July, 29, 1966 where he went to McGill Air Force Base. He volunteered for Vietnam in 1967 and was sent to Tonghutt Air Force Base in Saigon, Vietnam where he served 13 months in the country from 1967-1968. In total he served 35 years with the Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring April 11, 2001, during this tenure he obtained the rank SSgt/E-5 and numerous decorations, medals, badges and ribbons which include the Presidential Unit Citation Award in 1967 for combat in Vietnam during the Tet offensive, Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon W/2, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He is survived by his wife Darlene (Kilpatrick) Coop, Sister Jean Zimmerman, several brother and sisters in laws and several nieces/nephews, great & great great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents William & Mary Coop, Infant Brother Thomas Coop, Brother Harlan Coop and Sister Charlotte Zimmerman.

A private burial will take place in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens, Hohenwald, TN.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the McDonald Funeral Home, to help with burial expenses.
