Ammons, Glen Everett
Glen Everett Ammons, age 96, passed away from this home to his eternal home on Friday, August 7, 2020, exactly one month after the loss of his beloved wife and best friend of 71 years, Bettye Ammons.
He was born on March 25, 1924, in Hohenwald to the late Bill & Esther (Norman) Ammons. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, stationed in Alaska. Though he never saw combat he was extremely proud of his service and proud of his country. He married the love his of life on October 23, 1948. He worked for the State of TN in a managerial role for the Department of Employment and Security. He and Mrs. Bettye owned and operated the Ben Franklin store for 20 plus years. He was a member of the Lomax Church of Christ where he and his family have been attending for 10+ years. After his retirement, he enjoyed farming, seeing after his cattle, and planting a garden. He loved his family and his wife dearly, and now he is walking side by side with her once again holding her hand.
Survivors include his son, Lynn Ammons and wife, Jan, of Hohenwald, sister, Mary Helen James and husband, Bob, of Centerville, grandson, Garrett Ammons and wife, Carlee, of Nashville, and grandson, Desi Ammons of Columbia, TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Esther Ammons, wife, Bettye Ammons, brothers, Leamon Ammons, Carlos Ammons and Clyde Ammons, sisters, Roberta “Peaches” Grimes, Ruth Grimes, Alma Warren, and Willie McNabb.
Visitation with the family will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home – Lewis County on August 8, 2020 from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Services will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home – Lewis County on Monday, August 9, 2020 beginning at 11:00 AM with Jeff “Boo” Spears and Malcolm George officiating. Interment will follow in the Downey Cemetery, Hohenwald, TN.
