McClain, Helen June
Ms. Helen June McClain, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on August 15, 2023, in her hometown of Hohenwald, TN. She was born on June 3, 1938, to the late Ernest and Freda Higgins. Her loving spirit and selfless dedication will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Helen was a proud graduate of her local high school in 1958 and furthered her education at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in 1997. Her intellectual curiosity and hardworking nature propelled her into a successful career as a topographer.
Helen’s life was enriched by a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles McClain, her parents, Ernest and Freda Higgins, and her grandparents, Vesta and James Max Gordon. She was also predeceased by her great-grandchild, Emmit Willis. Helen is survived by her children and their spouses, Michael (Rebecca) McClain, Ed (Cindy) McClain, Anita (Robbie) Turnbow, and Gordon (April) McClain. She was a cherished grandmother to Chassie Barber, Matt McClain, Mark McClain, Stanley McClain, Tia McClain, and Quinten McClain. Helen’s legacy also lives on in her great-grandchildren, Ella Harris, Knox Harris, Magnolia Barber, Liam McClain, Libby McClain, Logan McClain, Gemma McClain, Lainey McClain, and Poppy McClain.
Helen was a woman of many passions. She had a deep love for nature, often found bird watching or delighting in the playful antics of squirrels. She also held a special place in her heart for her loyal canine companion, Jake. Helen was an excellent seamstress and found joy in creating beautiful pieces with her skilled hands. Above all, she was a dedicated matriarch who worked tirelessly to care for her family.
Visitation with family and friends will be held in the chapel of Adair Funeral & Cremation Services on Wednesday August 16, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am on Thursday August 17, 2023, with brother Steve Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in Loveless Cemetery in Hohenwald.
