He is survived by his wife Katherine Diane Simmons McCaleb. Sons Jeff McCaleb and Corey McCaleb. Sister Mildred Rochelle. Brother Ellis Wilson McCaleb. C.W. was always working. He spent many years as a welder and fabricator. He was very talented at designing and building just about anything out of metal, but his true passion was farming. At one time he kept as many as 90 head of cattle. He worked hard every day. His grandchildren remember him coming by early in the mornings to pick them up and put them to work on the farm. It was his way of keeping them busy so they would stay out of trouble.
He was proud of his farm and loved to share it and his gravel bar at Raleigh Chapel. He thoroughly enjoyed seeing children and adults alike having fun there. At one time he had made a dock and ropes to swing from and the Hickman County Times came and did a story on all of the fun that was being had there. His property was open to anybody, as long as you abided by his rule “leave it like you found it.”
When he wasn’t welding, farming, or tending to the gravel bar you could probably find him doing one of two things weedeating or watching his favorite westerns, which mainly consisted of Gunsmoke with the volume turned all the way up. He was a man who meant what he said and said what he meant. If he told you he had your back you knew that you could count on him. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends who knew him.
Graveside Services will be held October 20, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Poplar Union Cemetery, Duck River, TN.
