Mayfield, John Will, Sr
John Will Mayfield, Sr., born July 6, 1953, in Lewis County to the late Carl P. Mayfield & Mary Elizabeth (Walker) Mayfield, passed away on July 19, 2023, at the age of 70.
John was a graduate of Lewis County High School, Class of 1971, and a graduate of Columbia State with an engineering degree. He was an avid motorcycle rider since the age of 16 and loved to just get on and ride. He was known by his friends as Doc, and by his grandkids as Poppa John. He made his career in Real Estate as the head broker for Bob Parks Realty for 25 years, before moving back to Hohenwald and working for 7 years with High Forest Realty. He made his living with honesty and integrity, earning numerous awards and accolades across his career. He loved Tennessee football, Nascar, and Dale Earnhardt. He loved to cook and was an excellent chef, known for his Chicken Noodle Soup. He also loved photography, hunting, and playing pool. He was an excellent prankster, his family never knew where his fake rubber snake would end up. He was always proud to call Hohenwald his home, even while living in Murfreesboro. More than all these things though, he loved his family and was proud to be Poppa John.
John Mayfield, Sr. is survived by his sons, John (Kendra) Mayfield, Jr. of Hohenwald, and Carl Bret Mayfield of Johnson City, TN, daughters, Renee (Mark) Graves of Chapel Hill, TN, and Lacy Mayfield of Murfreesboro, TN, brother, Carl (Becky) Mayfield, Jr. of Murfreesboro, TN, sister, Betty and special brother-in-law, David Ramirez of Hohenwald, nine grandchildren, Harley Gallaher, Hayden Graves, Kara Mayfield, Kailey Mayfield, Charlee Mayfield, Trey Landers, Jase Hobbs, Ryver Hobbs & Keelee Whitney, one great-grandchild, Gracen Graves, nephew, Shane Murray, nieces, Kelly Stowe, and Erica Knight.
Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Lewis County. Funeral Services will immediately begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Swiss Cemetery, Hohenwald, TN.
