Matteson, John Samuel
John Samuel Matteson, affectionately known as Sam, passed peacefully on September 13, 2023, in Columbia, at the age of 61. Born in Chillicothe, Ohio, on July 26, 1962, Sam was the son of Leland Junior Matteson and Jean Loudermilk Matteson.
Sam is survived by his loving wife, Amanda (Edwards) Matteson; their cherished son, Raylan Vale Matteson of Hohenwald; a daughter of the heart, Rachelle of Marion, Ohio; siblings, Lynn Craig of Wellston, Ohio, Kathy (Terry) Weller of Bourbon, Missouri, Robert Matteson of Hamden, Ohio, Jack Matteson of Florida, Steve (Sue) Matteson of Wellston, Ohio and Tommy Matteson of Williamsburg, Ohio. He was a loving husband and a doting father, always putting his family’s needs before his own.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers David Matterson of Wellston, Ohio, and Henry Matteson of Hamden, Ohio.
Sam was an operations technician for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He was respected and loved by his colleagues, not only for his exceptional skills and commitment to his job but also for his infectious sense of humor that brightened up the workplace.
Sam had a deep love of music and he had a passion for singing karaoke. He loved to cook and grill for his family and friends. He was a member of The Assembly at Hohenwald. Sam was known for his great sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh, even in the most challenging situations. His laughter was contagious, and he had an uncanny ability to lighten the mood and bring joy to those around him. He was also a man of courage, facing his life’s most recent challenges with a strong will and a positive attitude.
Visitation with Sam’s family will be held at McDonald Funeral Home – Lewis County from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home – Lewis County with Bro. Justin Osborne officiating. Burial services will follow in Lewis County Memorial Gardens, Hohenwald, TN.
