Martin, Harry David
Harry David Martin was born April 1, 1951, in Franklin, Tennessee and died September 9, 2019, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 68 years 5 months and 8 days old. He was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Azella Moss Martin.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Earline Little Martin.
He is survived by his daughter, Angelia Walker of Columbia. Sons, Richard Martin of Bon Aqua, Steve Martin of Columbia, and John Martin of Columbia. Grandchildren, Jeremy Martin, Mary Walker, and Cameron Martin. Great-grandchildren, Shelby, Conner, and Maci Brewington. Brothers, Jackie Martin, and Randy Martin. Sister, Opal Martin, and sister-in-law, Janice O’Neil along with a whole host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
Mr. Martin worked as a Sheet Metal Mechanic. He spent time working at both Satler Manufacturing, and Wolf Industries. He retired from Satler. At home, he enjoyed many things in life. He kept a garden, enjoyed woodworking, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, sudoku and he loved to fish. He spent a lot of time chasing catfish on the Tennessee River, particularly at Cuba Landing. In his earlier days, he spent time working on race cars and this spilled over later in life to him enjoying NASCAR, his favorite, before he retired, was Jeff Gordon.
For over 15 years, Harry and Mary took in over 70 foster children. They cared deeply for each and every one of them. That was just in their nature to take in strays. Whether it be kids or animals, they would care for anything and anyone that needed a home and needed a caretaker. He was a loving father to all of his children, and grandchildren. He was “tough as nails”, and would let you know when you had gotten out of line. Although he mostly played the “good cop” role when it came to discipline, that didn’t mean that you did not have to mind your P’s and Q’s when you were around him. Summed up by one of his grandchildren, he simply said this, “he was a good guy”. He truly was to all those who knew him and loved him.
