Lewis, James Alexander
James Alexander Lewis Sr. was born on June 17, 1938 and passed away on April 2, 2022 at the age of 83. Mr. Lewis was married to Frances Elizabeth Carathers Lewis on March 29, 1957.
Mr. Lewis was the son of the late William David and Iva Jane Wiggs Lewis. He is also preceded in death by his sisters Mildred Williams, Lucille Beckner, and Thelma Myatt.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his sons James (Anita) Lewis Jr., and Ray Lewis, daughter Deborah (Ken) Boutwell, grandchildren Michael (Suzanne) Lewis, Jonathan Lewis, Crystal (Chris) Turner, Branden (Jamie) Lewis, Sally (Matt) Springer, Adam (Hayley) Boutwell, great grandchildren Courtney (Chance) Golden, JonMichael Lewis, Harper McCord, Averitt Turner, Kadence Turner, Easton Tanner, Bransen Lewis, Barrett Springer, Amelia Boutwell, and great-great grandchild Veronica Golden.
Mr. Lewis was born on Cane Creek and raised on Defeated Creek in Hickman County. He served his country in the National Guard for several years and worked/retired from the Ford Glass Plant after 31 years. He lived in the Pinewood community for 58 years, working as a cattle farmer and sharecropper. He served on the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service/Farm Service Agency for 30 years. He served as a deacon at Fairfield Baptist Church and then later at First Baptist Church Pinewood.
He traveled to every continental US state by truck and camper. He worked on a large cattle ranch in Colorado for several years managing the restoration of old buildings and serving as a hunting guide. Mr. Lewis loved to hunt and fish on his travels. He was a renown storyteller. He did woodworking and played the dulcimer. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Visitaton will be 5 April 2022 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County. A Funeral Service will be 6 April 2022 at 1:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County with burial to follow at Lewis Dodd Cemetery, Bon Aqua, TN.
