Douglas David Humphreys, III,   Services for Douglas David Humphreys, III were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2010 at McDonald Funeral Home. Mike Nolen, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial took place in Swiss Cemetery.   Mr. Humphreys, 81, died February 18, 2010 at Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.  Doug was born in Hohenwald, on October 3, 1928 to the late Honorable Douglas David Humphreys, Jr. and Elise Hinson Humphreys.  After serving his country in the United States Army, Doug returned to Nashville, with his wife, the late Patsy Lewis Humphreys, where he attended Peabody/Vanderbilt University. He completed his Masters Degree in mathematics, and while working on his Doctorate took a teaching job with McCallie private boys school in Chattanooga.  His daughter, Teresa Humphreys Holden, was born. Doug was then offered a teaching position with the prestigious Indian Springs private school near Birmingham, Alabama, where he taught math, directed the glee club, and designed a student convocation building for the school.  Two more daughters, Janet Humphreys and Nancy Humphreys Jones, were born. Wanting to always provide the best for his family and seeing an opportunity to use his math skills in the new space program and the developing computer age, he made a career change and moved the family to Huntsville, Alabama.  In Huntsville, he helped develop the first mainframe computers for NASA, helped to return the Apollo 13 astronauts to earth, and worked on the Strategic Defense Initiative or “Star Wars” program.  In Huntsville, a son was born, David Douglas Humphreys IV. Working on many government contracts led him eventually to the Florida gulf coast area of Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  After retiring in 1994, he could be found in his short pants and Birkenstock sandals year round.  Doug leaves behind daughters; Teresa Holden and her husband, Graham, , Janet Humphreys and her husband, Mark Izard, and Nancy Jones and her husband, Jericho, a son, David Douglas Humphreys IV and wife, Leslie; granddaughters, Shanna, Rhiannon, and Madison; great-granddaughter, Lily; and his dear friend of almost thirty years, Gene Jorgenson.  He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas David Humphreys Jr., his mother, Elise Hinson Humphreys, his wife, Patsy Lewis Humphreys, his bother, Boyd Humphreys, and his sister, Andeline Humphreys.

Betty Jean (Betsy Jane) Martin Smith died on Monday, February 22, 2010 at ECM Hospital in Florence, Alabama at the age of 79.  Services were held Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, Collinwood, with Jimmy Turnbow and Chad Balentine officiating. Eastern Star rites were given. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens at Collinwood.  Mrs. Smith of Collinwood was born October 29, 1930 in Waynesboro, the daughter of the late Joe Taylor Martin and Mamie Ethel Thompson Martin Melson. She was united in marriage to William Charles (W. C.) Smith on October 17, 1947 and he preceded her in death on October 25, 1995.  Mrs. Smith was a beautician, a member of Collinwood Freewill Baptist Church, Collinwood, was secretary of Collinwood FCE, secretary of Collinwood Order of Eastern Star, a former treasurer of Collinwood High School Alumni Assoc., a member of the Wayne County Democratic Women’s Assoc., and was an avid Collinwood High School Trojan fan.  She is survived by sons, Dr. William Steven Smith and wife, Morene, Robert Stanley Smith and wife, Lori, Richard Dennis Smith and wife, Janice; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by grandson, Chad Curry Griner; brothers, J. T. Martin, Carlton Martin, and Taylor Martin, Jr.; sisters, Dean Walters, Marie Brown; special niece, Joanne Smith; step-father, Ola (Slim) Melson.  Memorial donations may be given to the Chad Griner Scholarship Fund, 211 Troy Lane, Hohenwald, TN 38462.

Martha Ann Baker, age 78, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Tuesday evening, February 23, 2010 at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri.  She was born April 30, 1931 in Union City, TN.  Martha was a Front End Supervisor for the Kroger Grocery for 25 years retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Bolivar, Missouri. She lived in Nashville before moving to Bolivar, Missouri in 1998.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Edward Baker, Sr. who passed away in 1980.  Martha is survived by her three sons, Ed Baker and his wife Mary, Kelly Baker and his wife Gwen, Barry Baker and his wife Terri, and seven grandchildren.  A funeral service was held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri with Bro. Courtney Henderson officiating. Burial was privately held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Loveless Cemetery in Hohenwald under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar, Missouri.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1653, Topeka, Kansas 66601-1653.

Roy Elliott Calvert, Sr., age 72, died February 28, 2010 at his son’s residence in Hohenwald.   Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 3, 2010, 2:00 p.m., at Gordonsburg Church of Christ with Tommy Hood officiating. Burial took place in the Gordonsburg Cemetery with McDonald Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  A truck driver for Lewis County Highway Department, Mr. Calvert was born April 28, 1937 in Hohenwald to the late Bartey Bailey Calvert and Mary Crowell Calvert.  Survivors include four sons, Arthur Calvert of Jackson, Michigan, Roy Jr., Leroy, and Joe Calvert, all of Hohenwald; three daughters, Carolyn Allen of Madison, Mississippi, Mary Marlin and Christina Calvert, both of Hohenwald; three brothers, James and John Calvert of Oklahoma and Harold Calvert of Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Franklin Arthur “Art” Wanserski, age 69, died March 5, 2010 at an Alive Hospice residence in Nashville.  Funeral services were held March 9, 2010, 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Hohenwald with Mike Nolen officiating. McDonald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  A roofer, Mr. Wanserski was born April 5, 1940 in Zainsville, Ohio to the late Arthur Wanserski and Doris Zimmerman Wanserski. He was a United States Army veteran.  Survivors include his wife, Sharon Wolter Wanserski of Hohenwald; one step-son, Benji Szabrowicz of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one step-daughter, Sandi Szabrowicz of Waukesha, Wisconsin; and one sister, Patricia Ueberfluss of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Lt. Col. (Retired) James Franklin (Colonel) Kinney, age 89, died March 3, 2010 in Louisville, Tennessee.   A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Freedom Holy Temple Church with Glen Floyd officiating. A graveside service will take place 3:00 p.m. at Lewis County Memorial Gardens with military honors.   Jim spent 21 years as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. Fighting in two wars, WWII and Korea. He taught the first jet pilots of King Haile Salassie of Ethiopia and was the flight leader of the last air combat mission of the Korean War.  Lt. Col. Kinney was born June 14, 1920 in Alhambra, California to the late Walter James Kinney and Jewel Rankin Kinney. He grew up in Hollywood, California.  Survivors include his wife, Ruth Schoolcraft Kinney of Hohenwald; two daughters, Aimee Ruth (Ralph) Tackett of Hohenwald and Marion Jewel (John) Shorrock of Indiana; one son, Richard James (Kim) Kinney of Zephyrhills, Florida; one step-daughter, Sheila Karen (Roger) Majors of Louisville; two step-sons, Herbert Blaine (Virginia) Sapp and Ernest Nathan (Dinah) Sapp, both of Hohenwald; one sister, Blanche Ellen Evans of Duarte, California; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Catherine Achillich.

Silvio Andrews Sciacqua, 76, died March 3, 2010 at the Lewis County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hohenwald.   Mr. Sciacqua was born June 29, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Agostino Sciacqua and Delva Pancelli Sciacqua. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a restaurant owner.  A memorial service will be held at a later date. Entombment will take place in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum in Hillside, Illinois.  Survivors include his wife, Nora Miller Scaicqua of Hohenwald; two daughters, Susan Boyd of Lake Forest, Illinois and Nina Foster of Traverse City, Michigan; one step-son, Danny Thomas of Bowling Brooke, Illinois; one step-daughter, Belinda Murray of Hohenwald; one brother, Guss Sciacqua of Naples, Florida; one sister, Corinne Sciacqua of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Sciacqua is preceded in death by a daughter, Karia Ann Prindle.  McDonald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Davis M. Tennie, 89, died Monday, October 11, 2010.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home chapel in Centerville with Bill McDonald officiating. Burial took place in the Oakmont Cemetery in Hickman County.  She was the daughter of the late Clinton and Rose Freeman Cox, and the widow of Hobert Davis Sr., 

Fulton Smith, age 82, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. A native of Lawrence County, he was born July 4, 1928. Mr. Smith was a minister of the Church of Christ, presently with the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, and a member of the Salem Church of Christ.  

Lewis Newton Clay, 88, died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.  Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home chapel with L. C. Loveless officiating. Interment followed in the Downey Cemetery.  Mr. Clay was born September 19, 1922 in Lewis County to the late Thomas and Mattie Ann Ament Clay. He was a self-employed merchant, owning Lewis County Feed Store for many years, and was an Army Veteran. 

Lois Louise Spears McBride, age 70 of McEwen, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010.  Funeral services for Mrs. McBride were held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Humphreys County Funeral Home in Waverly with Bro. William Brown, Bro. David Lambert and Bro. Donald Smith officiating. Interment was in Gorman Cemetery. 

Mary R. Rodgers, 92, of Pleasantville, died Sunday, October 10, 2010.  Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville, with Michael Gillstrap and Bill McDonald officiating. Burial took place in the Beech Grove Cemetery in Hickman County.  The daughter of the late Daniel and Maggie Mitchell Bates, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ralph Rodgers. She was a school teacher in the Hickman County School System for 35 years, and a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.

Margaret Alyssa O’Brien, 55, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at her residence in Hohenwald.  She was born December 24, 1954 in Richmond, Virginia to Homer Pickrel and the late Pauline Wilkerson Pickrel.  In addition to her father, she is survived by two sons, Christopher O’Brien and Jarrett Hinson, both of Hohenwald; two daughters, Rebecca Hinson and Raina O’Brien, also of Hohenwald; and one brother, Steven Pickrel of Florida.  McDonald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dave “Papa” Duncan of Girard, Georgia, 62, former resident of Hohenwald, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia after an extended illness.  The Arkansas native retired from BE & K and SW&B Construction Companies after 35 years as a Journeyman Electrician.  He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Nell Duncan; children, Ben Ivey (Tammie) of Girard, Georgia, William G. Ivey of Tucmubia, Alabama, Sis McDonald (David) and Katrina Ivey, both of Hohenwald; grandchildren, Jacob and Justin Ivey, Amy Moon (Thomas), Stephen McDonald, Blake Ivey, and Bradley Chapman; and one great-grandson, Jordan Anderson.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Georgia Duncan, and brother, Jimmy Duncan.  Memorial contributions may be made to any abused children foundation, the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the March of Dimes.  DeLoach–McKerley Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Waynesboro, Georgia, was in charged of arrangements.

A memorial service for Larry Kenneth Blackburn, age 59, was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Lomax Church of Christ with Paul Conquest officiating.  Mr. Blackburn died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.  McDonald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangments.  He was born September 18, 1951 in Nashville to the late Billy Blackburn and Lina Sue Erwin Blackburn.  A lead tech laborer for Nissan, he was the husband of Belinda Spears Blackburn of Hohenwald.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Scott Blackburn of Nashville; one daughter, Danielle Stone, also of Nashville; two brothers, David (Lisa) Blackburn of Franklin and Steve Blackburn of Murfreesboro; one aunt, Marlene Blackburn of Hendersonville; one uncle, James (Evelyn) Blackburn, also of Hendersonville; several nieces and nephews; and one granddaughter.  In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Patricia Ann Hays, age 70, died October 22, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. October 24, 2010 at New Hope Baptist Church. Jerry McDonald, pastor of the church, and Glen Floyd, pastor of Freedom Holy Temple Church, officiated. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery.  She was born April 25, 1940 in Grove Oak, Alabama to the late Paul Lee Johnson and Lois Mae Stone Johnson.  She is survived by three daughters, Heather Lynn Brewer of Johnson City, Paula Halterman of Waynesville, North Carolina, and Paulette Renee Copley of Davenport, Florida; one brother, Freddie Ted Johnson of Davenport, Florida; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Wayne Hays, and grandson, Kristofer Copley.

Graveside services for Mary W. Wyatt, 79, were conducted on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Napier Cemetery with Art McCormick officiating.  Mrs. Wyatt was born in Winter Beach, Florida March 22, 1931 to the late Herbert L. and Annie Finney Horton. She was homemaker. 

William Carl Smith, Sr., age 97, died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at his home.  Funeral services were conducted on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Tate officiating. Interment took place in the Palestine Cemetery.  Mr. Smith was born November 25, 1912 in Hohenwald to the late Elish N. and Lillie Sue Cagle Smith. He worked at the Genesco plant in Hohenwald and Salant and Salant in Lawrenceburg. 

Sarah F. Bates, age 75, of Franklin, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010.  Funeral services were held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home chapel with Richard Tate officiating. Interment followed in the Downey Cemetery.  Mrs. Bates was born in Lewis County to the late Albert and Cora Johns Galloway. She was a retired sales clerk of J. C. Penney Co. working at the Hickory Hollow store. 

Charles S. Mitchell, age 62, died Sunday, October 31, 2010 at his home in Hohenwald.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Carroll, minister of Pineview Church of Christ, officiating. Entombment took place in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens Mauseloum. 

Martha B. Slate, 85, of Centerville, died Sunday, October 31, 2010.  Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2010 at the New Life Assembly of God Church, located at 1159 Highway 100 in Centerville. Burial took place in Memory Gardens Cemetery. 

Jackie Earle Tanner, age 63, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Lewis County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hohenwald.  Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel. Marcus Webb, pastor of Blondy Church of God, will be officiating and burial will take place in the Loveless Cemetery. 

Ernest Victor Pace, 91, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Fresenius Medical Center in Centerville.  Funeral services were conducted on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home chapel with John Durham and Richard Tate officiating. Interment took place in the Swiss Cemetery.

Ronnie Scaife, age 62, died November 3, 2010 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.  Funeral services were held Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Young Funeral Home in Perry County with Dave Grimes officiating. Interment followed in the JACONA Cemetery, a family plot on his farm in Pleasantville.  Mr. Scaife was born in Helena, Arkansas to the late Gladys and Don Scaife. He was a musician and song writer.  He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Brenda; three sons, Nathan and wife Tera, Cody and wife Statia, and Jake; three granddaughters, Izzie, Elise and Emma; brother, Alan Scaife; sister, Jane Scaife Thomas; nieces and nephews, Brandi, Kori, Jason, Casey, Benji, Clint and Madison.

Margaret Elizabeth Overbey, 83, died October 20, 2010 in Grand Junction, Colorado.  She was a resident of Hohenwald until 1999, when she moved to Colorado to live with her daughter and husband, Holly Overbey Cooper and John Cooper.  During the past several years she suffered from Alzheimer’s and most recently from physical ailments. She is now comfortable and at peace.  Margaret was the daughter of the late Maggie and Mitchell Witherspoon and the widow of Joe Herbert Overbey Jr.  She had 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Lou W McCann ,   Funeral services for Lou W. McCann, age 78, was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2010 in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry McDonald and Johnny Clayton officiating. Entombment followed in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.  Mrs. McCann died Friday, November 5, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.  She was born October 30, 1932 in Gordonsburg to the late John and Ella Burlison Mathis. She was a clerk at the A&W Salvage in Hohenwald. and member of Springer Church of Christ.  Survivors include her husband, Edward McCann of Hohenwald; two sons, Mark McCann of Hohenwald and James McCann of Lobelville; two daughters, Melissa Jackson and Alisa Kirby, both of Hohenwald; one brother, Melvin Mathis of Perryville; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James, Amos and Elvin Mathis; and two great grandsons, Treyton Isbell and Trenton Devore.

Alton Leo Harris, age 70, of Waynesboro, died Monday, November 8, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted graveside at the Swiss Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010 with Richard Tate officiating. McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Harris was born in Wayne County March 30, 1940 to Cleo Inman Harris and the late Woodrow W. Harris of Waynesboro. He was a farmer and a logger. He was preceded in death by his father and wife, Billy June Ward Harris.

Mable Jean Frazier, 62, died in an automobile accident Wednesday, November 3, 2010 on Highway 20 East. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Glen Floyd, pastor of Freedom Holy Temple, officiating. Ms. Frazier was born September 2, 1948 in Lewis County to the late Guy Boyd and Julia Mae Whitehead Frazier. She was a homemaker.

Ethel Lane Poore, age 92, of Hohenwald, passed away on November 3, 2010 at the Lewis County Nursing and Rehab Center in Hohenwald. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with David Salisbury and Malcom George, ministers of Lomax Church of Christ, officiating. Interment followed in the Swiss Cemetery.

David Ray Field, 71, of Clifton, died November 4, 2010 in an automobile accident on Stephenson Schoolhouse Road in Hampshire. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Hickman County. with Shane Riley officiating. Burial took place in the Campground Cemetery adjacent the church. McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald was in charge of arrangements.

Vick Roger Nichols, age 72, died November 8, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Garner officiating. Interment took place November 13, 201 in the Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, North Carolina.  Mr. Nichols was born September 11, 1938 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Frank and Adelia May Riesinger Nichols. An Army Veteran serving during Viet Nam with the Special Forces Green Berets, he was a construction inspector and a professional wrestler known as the “Scuffin Hillbilly Vick.”  Survivors include his wife, Mary Heavner Nichols of Hohenwald; three sons, Vick Nichols, Jr. of Granite Falls, North Carolina, Dennis Smith of Hickory, North Carolina and Roger Nichols of Ohio; three daughters, Adelia Crowe of Hohenwald, Wanda Hayes of Hickory, North Carolina and Vicky Nichols of Ohio; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charity Helton.

Terry Wayne Cotham, age 53 of Lawrenceburg, died November 11, 2010 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama.  Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Glen Floyd, pastor of Freedom Holy Temple Church, officiating. Interment took place in the Edwards Cemetery.  Mr. Cotham was born November 10, 1957 in Hohenwald to the late James W. and Mary Cathrine Jones Cotham. He was a painter for Tri-County Painting Company.  Survivors include two sons, Josh Cotham of Lawrenceburg and Colin Cotham of Hohenwald; daughter, Terri Lynn Cotham of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Justin and Tony Cotham, both of Hohenwald; and four grandchildren.

Larry T. Potts, 62, of Londonderry, Ohio, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 in the Adena Regional Medical Center unexpectedly. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 in the Ware Funeral Home in Ohio with Pastor Jerry Tackett officiating. Burial followed in Browns Chapel Cemetery, also in Ohio.  Larry owned and operated the former South End Market in Circleville, Ohio and Howell’s Market in Londonderry, Ohio.  He was born June 26, 1948, in Hohenwald to Junior and Willodean Harris Potts. On June 30, 1966, he married Angela Howell who survives.  Also surviving are three children, Tammy Lynn Williams and companion, Rick Adams, of Hillsboro, Ohio and Larry A. (Leann) Potts, of Ray, Ohio; five grandchildren; three brothers, Dennis Potts and Jimmy (Patsy) Potts, both of Tennessee and Tim (Cheryl) Kelly, of Circleville, Ohio; four sisters, Lorene Winfrey, Judy Potts, and Melissa (Ricky) Brown, all of Tennessee and Ann (Charles) Holder of Texas; two sisters-in-law, Peggy (Kallous) Certain and Rene (Bill) Jones, both of Londonderry, Ohio; mother-in-law, Mae Howell, of Londonderry, Ohio; and stepfather, Dave Brilinski, of Clarksburg, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Terry Kelly; and father-in-law, Adrian Howell.

Doris Mae DeVault, age 72, died November 9, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.  Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. November 12, 2010 in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Kyle Conner officiating.  Mrs. DeVault was born May 26, 1938 in Tennessee to the late Paschael Otto and Verna Atchley Burns. She was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter DeVault; son, James Larry DeVault; brother, Junior Ray Burns; granddaughter, Ashley Stanley DeVault and grandson, Colton Randolph.  Survivors include three sons, Walter “Tony” DeVault and Ken DeVault of Hohenwald and Danny DeVault of Rensselaer, Indiana; one daughter, Tammy Randolph of Rensselaer, Indiana; brother, Jerry Burns of Macon, Georgia; three sisters, Linda Burns of Mobile, Alabama, Sandra Mash and Jane Conner, both Hohenwald; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. 

Letitia McClearen Cole, age 83 of Nashville, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2010 surrounded by family members.  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home, 2707 Gallatin Road in Nashville. Burial took place Sunday, November 114, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery in Farmer’s Exchange.  She was born in the Topsy Community of Wayne County on March 28, 1927. Letitia pioneered the “Mothers Day Out” program in the early ‘60’s at Inglewood United Methodist Church, which still exists today.  Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by parents, James Edgar “Ed” Skelton and Fannie Pebble Edwards Skelton and husband of 30 years, Charles Luther McClearen.  She is survived by devoted husband of 22 years, Robert G. Cole; two daughters, Brenda Kay McClearen and husband James Hubbard, and Martha Pebble McClearen; two sisters, Parasada Skelton Riley and Greta Mae Cothran; two grandchildren, Kelly Dawn Reynolds and husband Jake, and Troy Lynn Morris; and great-grandchild, Beckett Troy Reynolds.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Inglewood UMC 615-228-1307.

Joe M. Lynch, age 77 of the Aetna Community in Hickman County, died November 18, 2010.  Funeral services were held Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville with Paul O’Guin and Bill McDonald officiating.  Mr. Lynch was born April 11, 1933 in Aetna to the late William Otto and Sara Lova Brown Lynch. He was a stockman for Sam’s Club, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the Aetna Church of Christ.  He is survived by his sister, Pearl Jenkins of Centerville; a niece he raised, Patricia Judy Lynch Gately; and several other nieces and nephews.

Sherman Eugene Bunch, Funeral services for Sherman Eugene Bunch were held Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Justin Morton and Malcom George officiating. Interment took place in the Downey Cemetery.  Mr. Bunch, age 82, died Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Lewis County Nursing and Rehabitation Center.  He was born September 25, 1928 in Lewis County to the late Elmer and Nola Cameron Bunch. He was a retired bus driver for the Lewis County Schools and an Army Veteran.  Survivors include his wife, Nell Barnett Bunch of Hohenwald; two sons, Mike (Debbie) Bunch and Johnny (Kenya) Bunch, both of Hohenwald; one daughter, Beverly (Jerry) Morton of Columbia; two brothers, Ishmael Bunch of Hohenwald and Billy Bunch of Manchester; one sister, Johnnie Faye Skelton of Hohenwald; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Reuel and Dwight Bunch; sisters, Dora Maye Greenlee and Ruby Sue Bunch.

Ashley Self, age 27, of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at Kindred Hospital in Nashville.  Graveside service took place at Bumpus Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2010, with Rev. Dwayne Sparks officiating. Arrangements were made by Neal Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg.  A native of Hohenwald, she was born December 23, 1982. She was a CNA and a member of the Pentecostals of Hohenwald.  She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Wendell Terrell Self and J. B. Stephens.  She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Priscilla Stephens Hewgley and Robert Hewgley; father, Wendell Self; one brother, Charles Steven Self (Candace); stepsisters, A.J. Hewgley and Heather Hewgley, all of Lawrenceburg; maternal grandmother, Loudean Stephens of Hohenwald; and paternal grandmother, Adell Self Stephenson, also of Lawrenceburg. Ashley’s mother donated 13 cases of Jevity One (milk) in her honor to Lewis County Nursing and Rehab where her sister, Heather, works.

Lois Irene Patton, age 90, died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Perry Community Hospital in Linden.  Funeral services were held Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Donald Duncan, Richie Anderson and Bill Webb officiating. Interment followed in the Swiss Cemetery.  Mrs. Patton was born February 6, 1920 in Hohenwald to the late Pierce and Lyda Hinson Duncan. She and her husband, Marvin Patton, owned and operated a grocery store in the Riverside community for several years.  She is preceded in death by her husband and parents; a daughter, Linda Kummell and a brother, Elvin Duncan.  Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Crowell of Hohenwald; brother, Edd Duncan of Asheville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Karen Moon, Gina Edwards, Jacquelin Coble, Scot Dickey, Ken Crowell and Lance Crowell, all of Hohenwald, and Greg Dickey of Nashville; eleven great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

Eddie D. Durham, age 60, of Hohenwald, died Monday, November 29, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.  Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville with Glenn Floyd, pastor of Freedom Holy Temple Church, officiating. Interment took place in Beech Grove Cemetery in the Pleasantville community.  Mr. Durham was born May 14, 1950 in Humboldt to the late Bedford and Edna Grace Qualls Durham. He was an employee of the auto industry in Detroit, Michigan.  He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Okid and Samantha Durham, both of Detroit, Michigan; and Angelia Frazier of Miami, Florida; seven grandchildren; one brother, Alvin Durham of McEwen; and one sister, Reba Simmons of Lyles.

Bobbie Jo Reed, age 70, of Schiller Park, Illinois, died Friday, November 19, 2010.   A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Piney Baptist Church in Hohenwald.  She was born January 28, 1940 to the late Clarence and Hester Dollar Kelsey of Hohenwald.  She was born January 28, 1940 to the late Clarence and Hester Dollar Kelsey of Hohenwald.  Survivors include one daughter, Vickie (Mike) Olson; one son, Timothy (Barbara); five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers and sisters, Dee Runions, Julian Gregg, Edward Dollar, Kenneth, and Freddy Kelsey.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George Kelsey.  Funeral service was held Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 7 p.m., at Cuneo-Columbian Funeral Home in Franklin Park, Illinois with private interment.

Bernie L. Bolton, age 68, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at his residence in Hohenwald.  Mr. Bolton was born August 24, 1942 in Mt. Pleasant to the late Bernie Albert and Lora Baker Bolton. He was retired from McFall Sod and Seed Co.  Survivors include his wife, Ethel Taylor Bolton of Hohenwald; son, Bryan Lee (Teresa) Bolton of Columbia; two daughters, Lynn (James) Morton of Columbia and Donna Stanley of Hohenwald; three brothers, J. C. Bolton of Columbia, Edward Bolton of Hohenwald and Walter Wilson “PeeWee” Bolton of Pulaski; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James Albert and David Ray Bolton.

Illa Lucille Reeves, 72, died Thursday, November 30, 2010 at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin.  Funeral services were conducted on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with Jerry Barber officiating. Interment took place in the Palestine Cemetery.  Mrs. Reeves was born April 5, 1938 in Hickman County to the late Omar and Nannie Weatherspoon Barber. She was a cook for Lewis County Schools. 

Floyd Rayon Sandy, 73, died December 5, 2010 at his residence in Hohenwald.  Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with Jack Tharp and Tony Holt officiating. Interment took place in the Baugus Cemetery.  Mr. Sandy was born, December 11, 1936 in Loretto to the late Troy Lee and Clara Eunice Bearden Sandy. He was a carpenter.

Linda Darlene Shoemaker, age 47, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with Thomas Vann officiating. Interment will follow in Lewis County Memorial Gardens.  Mrs. Shoemaker was born November 13, 1963 to William Earl Morris and Melva Anita Barnes Morris of Hohenwald.  In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jack West Shoemaker; son, Christopher Shoemaker; two daughters, Christie Peery and Crystal (Michael) Odom; two brothers, William Walter Morris and James Lynn Morris; one sister, Karen Estell Warren; grandson, Landon Odom; and father-in-law, John Shoemaker, all of Hohenwald.

Jerry Donald Ward, 69, passed away December 9, 2010, at his home in Linden.  Funeral services were held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Young Funeral Home with Dennis Phillips, J. W. Alley, and Johnny Ward officiating.  Interment followed in the Ward-Peace Cemetery.  Mr. Ward, a self-employed heavy equipment operator and employee of Graham Lumber Company for twenty-five years, was born in Perry County on December 29, 1942 to the late Leonard Brown Ward and Elsie Inman Ward. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.  Survivors include his wife of twenty-four years, Dale Ann Ward of Linden; children, David (Melinda) Ward of Hohenwald, Lisa Hidgon of Linden, Jamie (Jennifer) Ward of Cincinnati, Ohio, Vickie Avrett and Bruce Avrett, both of Scotts Hill; two sisters, Norma (Jackie) Duncan and Christine (John) Broadway, both of Linden; and five grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ezekiel Inman and Adline Graham Inman, paternal grandparents, James Arthur (Boss) Ward and Clara Richardson Ward; step-father, Grade Richardson.

John Francis Bertrand, 72, of Centerville, died Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home. A funeral mass was held at 1 p.m. at the Catholic Church in Hohenwald with Father Kevin officiating. Burial took place in the Campground Cemetery in Centerville.  Mr. Bertrand was born February 25, 1938 in Ontario, Canada to the late Francis Leo Bertrand and Lillian Rose Clark Bertrand. He was a self-employed businessman, owning Crossways Trading Post in Centerville, and a member of Knights of Columbus.  Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Lilieth (Shave) Bertrand of Centerville; three daughters, Brenda Anne Lane of Centerville, Carrie Harvill of Lyles, and Jennifer Lynn Carroll of Waynesboro; one brother, Robert Bertrand of Miami Lakes, Florida; one sister, Maureen Frances Garner of Opalocka, Florida; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

David Leroy Tucker of Harvest, Alabama passed away Friday, December 10, 2010. He was 72.  Mr. Tucker, a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, was a resident of Madison County since the early ‘80s. He was a retired engineer from Kratos and a member of the Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring after serving 21 years of service. He served in Korea, Germany and Hawaii.  He is survived by his wife, Judy Raye Holt Tucker; two daughters, Kimberly Junghans of Madison, Alabama and Joni Tucker of Huntsville, Alabama; two step-children, Chad Hickerson of Orlando, Florida, and Terri Speir of Huntsville, Alabama; sister, Betty Meade of Greensboro, North Carolina; four grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Iva Holt of Hohenwald.  Services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, December 12, 2010 in the chapel of Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama. Graveside services, with full military honors, followed at 2:30 p.m. at Springer Church of Christ Cemetery in Hohenwald.

Elsie Pauline Duncan, 85, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at Lewis County Nursing and Rehab Center.  Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with Walter Droke officiating. Interment followed in the Downey Cemetery.  Mrs. Duncan was born March 30, 1925 in Hickman County to the late Thomas Bartlett and Iona Simmons Gordon. She was retired from Genesco.  Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Duncan, Jr.  Survivors include three sons, Jackie (Norma) Duncan of Linden, Jimmy (Judy) Duncan, John Michael (Janet) and Eddy (Kathy) Duncan all of Hohenwald; one daughter, Melody (Patrick) Smallwood of Bartlett; one brother, T. B. Gordon of Centerville; eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Matthew Marlin Murphy, age 32, who recently moved to Columbia after having lived many years in College Station, Texas, died December 7, 2010 in Pulaski.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2010 in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel in Hohenwald with Chris Schrader officiating. Burial took place in the Barber Family Cemetery on Trace Creek Road.  Mr. Murphy was born August 14, 1978 in Lewis County to Marty Murphy and Karen Barber Kendrick.  Survivors include his wife, Sara Murphy; his mother and step-father, Larry Kendrick of Columbia; his father and step-mother, Debbie Murphy, also of Columbia; sisters, Mandy Pettis (Nick) and Marsha Murphy, both of Columbia; half-sisters, Marissa Murphy of Murfreesboro and Meaghan Murphy of Columbia; nieces, Alischa, Ashland, and Addison Pettis, Jeweliah Fry, and Kaleah Murphy; grandparents, Lester Gene Barber and Linda Kay Parker, both of Hohenwald; aunts, Debra Gowie (Bruce) and Leah and Katelyn of Avon, Colorado, Phyllis Renee Leonard (Bart) and Reyne and Sam, Melinda Ward (David); uncles, Jason Barber (Amber), Mickey Murphy (Kay) and children, Mike Murphy and family; and Jessica Roden (Billy) and Bobby and Rodney and families; also many friends in Texas.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Orfice and Frances Murphy.

Robert Wayne Mathis, Funeral services for Robert Wayne Mathis, age 68, was held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2010 in the chapel of Replogle-Lawrence Funeral Home with Scott Bloodworth officiating. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery near Medina.  Mr. Mathis died December 3, 2010 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.  He was born in Hohenwald, son the late Carlos Raymond and Iva Lucille Pirtle Mathis and moved to Medina at a young age with his parents. Mr. Mathis was a graduate of Medina High School. He was the retired Traffic Manager for Kelly Foods with 45 years service. He attended Sitka Church of Christ near Milan.  He leaves his wife, Carolyn Wateridge Mathis of Jackson; two daughters, Stacey Sharp and husband Paul of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Kristy Odle of Medina; step-daughter, Sara Tosh and husband Tommy of St. Louis, Missouri; two step-sons, Randy Mann of Jackson and William Mann of Brownsville; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Edward Mathis and wife Joyce of Henderson.

Alusie Mae Shelby, age 89 of Centerville, died Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Hickman Community Nursing Home.  Funeral services were held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville with Dennis Tidwell and Bill McDonald officiating. Burial took place in the Charles L. Nickell Memorial Park.  Mrs. Shelby was born December 19, 1920 to the late Grover Seiber and Ester Clay Seiber.  The wife of the late John T. Shelby, she was a cook for the Hickman County School system and a member of Defeated Creek Church of Christ.  Survivors include three sons, Larry Shelby of Clarksville, Roy Shelby and Richard Shelby, both of Centerville; one brother, Virgle Shelby of Hohenwald; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Kenneth O. Loveless, 78, of the Brushy Community in Hickman County, died December 17, 2010.  Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010, with Bill McDonald officiating. Burial followed in the Milan Cemetery.  A native of Hickman County, he born April 11, 1932 to the late Jim D. and Wilma Milan Loveless.  Mr. Loveless was a US Army veteran serving in Korea, and also served 32 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard. He was a truck driver for Barber Oil Company for many years and a member of the Brushy Church of Christ.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine Bryant Loveless, two sons, Kenny and Jimmy Loveless, two daughters, Debbie Collins and Mitzi Loveless; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren

Andrew Nathan Johnston, age 30, of Lynville, died Thursday, December 16, 2010 in Columbia. He was formerly of Hohenwald.  Mr. Johnston was born September 15, 1980 in Columbia. He worked in the construction field.  Survivors include his father, Lawrence “Larry” Johnston of Knoxville; mother, Laura Harris Johnston of Lynnville; brother, Parker Johnston of Lilburn, Georgia; and maternal grandmother, Earline Harris of Hohenwald.  McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald was in charge of the arrangements.

Dona Mae Hayes, 77, died Friday, December 24, 2010 at her residence in Hohenwald.  Funeral services were held Monday, December 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Glen Floyd, pastor of Freedom Holy Temple, officiating. Interment took place in the Swiss Cemetery.  Mrs. Hayes was born February 8, 1933 in Hohenwald to the late Ollie and Eula Mae Dabbs Adkins. She was a retired factory worker.  Survivors include three sons, Richard Edward Lay (Rachel) of Parsons, Ronnie Lay (Audrey) and Joe Lay, both of Hohenwald; 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Eddie Collins Herring, age 76, died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at her home in Hohenwald.  Funeral services were held Sunday, December 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with Brent Landers, pastor of General Assembly and Church of the First Born, officiating. Interment followed in the Holder Cemetery in Linden.  Mrs. Herring was born May 13, 1934 in Perry County to the late John Will and Lillie Carter Landers. She was a nurse at the Lewis County Hospital.  Survivors include three sons, Robert Collins (Sandra) of Hohenwald, Claudie Collins (Lorie Lynn) of Dickson, Tim Collins (Patsy) of Dyer; three daughters, Debbie Cotham (Dwight) of Columbia, Pam Bailey (Bud) of Mt. Pleasant and Kim Salcido (Eddie) of Clarmore, Oklahoma; two brothers, J. B. Landers of Hohenwald and W. C. Landers of Linden; two sisters, Dean Holder of Trenton and Lona Powell of Ethridge; 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, three great, great granchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Ray Herring and a sister, Netta Davis.

Donald Lankford King, 85, died Friday, November 26, 2010 at his residence.  Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Swan Creek Baptist Church with Chris Gowan and Dwight Lyles officiating. Interment followed in the Kittrell Cemetery. McDonald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Mr. King was born August 15, 1925 in Maury County to the late Argles and Pearl Kennedy King. He was a farmer, a fish cooker at Swan View Restaurant and an employee of the Tennessee Highway Department.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Clifford Sr., Carl, Claude, William, Earnest and Lawrence King; sisters, Cora Lee Lindsey, Neva Beckum, Mary Ellen Lane and Mary Francis King.  Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Allen King of Hampshire; three sons, Michael King (Elizabeth) of Mt. Pleasant, Morris King (Betty) and Mark King (Mary Jane), both of Hampshire; sisters-in-law, Nora King and Wilma King, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Juanita King of Hohenwald; also four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
