Mary Esther Sawtell Lawson passed away peacefully at Ascension Saint Thomas Hickman Nursing Home on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the age 87 years.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Washington, D. C. on July 15, 1936, to the late Arthur Sawtell and Mary Gissell Sawtell.

Mary married the late Jack Lawson in 1955 and followed this career soldier to numerous posts in the United States, Canada, and Europe raising four children: Karen Anne Berlin of Newton, North Carolina (Alexander), the late Suzanne Kathleen Wright (Michael), Deby Lynn Transue of Centerville, Tennessee (Danny), and Kenneth Eugene Lawson (Darla) of Cunningham, Tennessee. She has eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her brother, Stanley Sawtell of Houston, Texas and sister-in-law, Billie Lawson Parham of Centerville, Tennessee.

Mary worked many years at Jostens Publishing and was a talented seamstress, cook, artist, vegetable gardener and preserver, and a welcoming friend to many. Mary will ever be remembered most if all for her acceptance of everyone, her quick wit and wicked humor, and her open and forgiving heart.
