Jackson, BIlly Don
Mr. Billy Don Jackson, a resident of Hohenwald, TN, passed from this life to his home in Glory on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the age of 74.
Billy Don was born on November 23, 1948, to Bill and Wilma (Owen) Jackson in Manila, Arkansas, and he was the oldest of four siblings. The family moved from Arkansas to Chicago and then moved to Hohenwald when Billy Don was in the eighth grade.
Billy loved to talk about his childhood and told many stories of his uncles and riding in their big trucks and them teaching him how to drive a semi truck at a very young age. Billy graduated from Lewis County High School here in Hohenwald.
On September 24, 1966, he married the love of his life, JoAnne Morton. They were married for fifty-six years and had an amazing life together. Billy and JoAnne owned an operated Allied Services in Hohenwald for twenty years. After he sold his business, he went to work for the City of Hohenwald as the Codes Inspector and worked there until his retirement. He and JoAnne loved their community. He helped countless people throughout his life and truly enjoyed being able to serve others. He loved to travel, and he and JoAnne traveled all over the world. They were able to see many beautiful places and make memories to cherish for a lifetime. Billy Don has cars, planes, and trains-anything and everything that went fast! He loved to drag race cars and his favorite was “Jumping Jack Flash.” He learned to fly planes. He had boats, motorcycles, trucks, and cars of all types. Billy was a fixer. It was often said that if Billy Don couldn’t fix it it couldn’t be fixed. Billy Don loved to play jokes and pranks on people. If you worked with him, knew him, or were his friend chances are he played a joke on you in some way and you have a good story to tell about it now. He loved to sit around and tell stories and reminisce.
He loved his family more than anything in this world, but his favorite title was that of “Granddaddy Billy” or “Pawpaw”. His best days were spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Really, any day spent with his family was a good day to Billy Don.
Above all, Billy Don was a child of God. He served the Lord until his dying breath. He and Jo were dedicated members of the Hohenwald Church of Christ. Many church members will tell you that Billy Don worked harder than anyone. You could drive by many days a week and see Billy Don’s big red truck in the parking lot. He was working at the Church and making sure it looked as good as it could. He lived to serve the Lord.
Along with his wife, JoAnne Jackson of Hohenwald, he is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Jeff) Cameron of Hohenwald, his granddaughter, Chelsey Spitzer of Hohenwald, his great grandchildren, Noah Cotham and Layla Spitzer, and also two sisters and many nieces and nephews.
His parents and one brother precede him in death.
