Hornbeak, Roberta
Roberta Hornbeak, born November 30, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Finnis Odell Russ and William Russ, lived a life defined by courage, love, and devotion to family. A graduate of Hampton High School in Dickson, TN, she was one of the Courageous Six who helped pave the way for school desegregation in Dickson County.
In high school she met and later married the love of her life, the late Jimmy Hornbeak Jr. Together they were proud members of the Rare Blood Motorcycle Club, riding side by side through life’s journey. Roberta worked at Genesco and Levi’s, later returning to school for accounting before retiring, while also sharing her talents at Dillard’s, Central Parking, and East Food Market.
She is survived by her children, Marie Lee and Carmencita (Bobby) Tubbs; bonus son, Danny Wright; grandchildren, Mariquette (Robert) Boulton, Donzaleigh (Gerald) Hall, and Karayana Tubbs; six great-grandchildren; and many beloved extended family members. Roberta now rejoices in heaven with her husband, Jimmy, her sisters Nancy and Mattie Sue, and her brothers William and James.
Roberta will be remembered for her strength, her laughter, and her unwavering love for her family.
Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Centerville, TN.
