Hoben, Sarah Elizabeth
Sarah Elizabeth Hoben, born August 24, 1943, in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, passed away on April 2, 2025 at the age of 81.
Born to the late Henry David Morgan and Alice Alberta Wales, Sarah spent her early years in Alabama before moving to Michigan, where she lived for 55 years. Three years ago, she relocated to Summertown, Tennessee, to help care for her sister after the passing of her beloved husband—a testament to her generous and loving spirit.
She was a devoted Christian and a proud member of Baugus Church of God, where her faith shined brightly in all she did. A woman of strength and sass, Sarah had an undeniable zest for life—so much so that she even had a beloved dog named Sassy to match her spirit.
Sarah loved to travel, especially on cruises, and never met a stranger. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Ladies Society, a group dedicated to celebrating life, friendship, and fun among women, reminding each other to embrace joy and laughter at every stage of life. She also dedicated her career to caring for others, working as a home health aide and in a group home for those with disabilities.
In earlier years, she found joy in cooking and lovingly crafted baby quilts for her family—treasured keepsakes that continue to bring comfort. She also had a passion for singing karaoke, filling every room with music and joy.
Above all, Sarah’s greatest love was her family. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and warm memories that will forever be held in the hearts of those who knew her.
Mrs. Hoben is survived by her son David Guthrie of Belleville, MI, daughter Melissa (James) Carver of Cairo, GA, daughter Dr. Sarah (George) Wescott of Mason, OH, brother Randal (Glenda) Morgan, sister Linda Dykes of Summertown, TN, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, seven nieces and eight nephews.
