Greengrass, Nellie Lee
Nellie Lee Greengrass died Friday, December 31, 2010 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. She was 92. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home with Rev. Drew Brewer, pastor of Hohenwald United Methodist Church, officiating. Entombment followed in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Mrs. Greengrass was born May 4, 1918 in Columbus, Kentucky to the late Alfred B. and Pearl Brummell Cosby. She was a homemaker and, in previous years, co-owner of Flower Fashions of Hohenwald. Mrs. Greengrass was an active member of the Lewis County Democratic Party. She served as past chairman of the Lewis County Jury Commission. She also served 29 years as Chairman of the Lewis County Election Commission and for many years was chairman of the American Heart Association in Lewis County. Survivors include a son, George Lee (Joy) Greengrass of Buchanan; daughter, Patricia Ann Crandell of Los Angeles, California; sister-in-law, June Cosby of Gleason; five grandchildren, Meloney Liegon and Spencer Townsend, both of Nashville, Lee (Laura) Greengrass of Spring, Texas, Jason Townsend of Los Angeles, California, and Brian Townsend of Lawrenceburg; three great grandchildren, Cooper Shotts of Nashville, Christian Greengrass and Elissa Greengrass of Spring, Texas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Greengrass, retired plant manager of Henry I. Seigel Company in Hohenwald; brothers, Walter Baker and Alfred D. Cosby; sisters, Anna May Lankford and Betty Council.
