Fuller, John R
John R. Fuller, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2021, after a lengthy battle with plasmacytoma multiple myeloma. He was a 14-year resident of Hohenwald, TN, and he enjoyed every bit of his retirement living there with his wife.
He was born in Brookings, South Dakota, to James and Helen Fuller in 1947. He earned Eagle Scout certification at age 14, which gave him a sense of responsibility. This achievement also helped form his character and his life-long desire to maintain close ties with family, the friends he grew up with, and those he met while attending college.
John served in the U.S. Army with distinction having earned numerous medals and commendations while serving mostly in Vietnam.
John graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, as a Dean’s List Scholar with a Bachelor of Science degree and a major in chemistry. After 20 years working for Chevron in several capacities, he longed for early retirement, and left as SAR Project Manager in Chevron Products Co.
John and his wife found the home of their dreams in Hohenwald in 2007. He couldn’t wait to build a greenhouse, start a garden and raise chickens and rabbits. He loved farming, and he and his wife were known to give away produce, tree saplings and eggs to friends when they had more than they could use.
John is survived by his wife of 23 years, Linda; his son, Ian, in Oregon; daughter, Nicole, in Tennessee; and siblings June Fuller Almond, Michael Fuller, Mary Fuller Schroder and Peter Fuller. Oldest brother, James, predeceased John in 2009. John also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He thought the world of his children and was there when they needed him for educational guidance, life lessons and any help they needed at any time for any reason. He was proud of what they accomplished in their adult lives.
John was an amazing, loving husband who was greatly admired by his wife for not only his even disposition and unconditional love, but also the way he assured her that things would be alright despite what seemed like insurmountable odds at various times in their life together. She also admired his exceptional building skills, his fix-it abilities and his many improvements to the property.
Linda carried out all his end-of-life wishes; and, together with his hospice nurse, ensured that he found peace at last in the comfort of the home he loved. John was a likable, gentle soul who will be missed by all those who knew him well.
Cremation took place at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia, and a small private ceremony was held at the family’s home.
