Ellis, John Lee
Mr. John Lee Ellis, 89, of Hohenwald, TN, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Reserve in Spring Hill, TN.
John was born on August 1, 1932, to Jewell Ophir Ellis and Jennie V (Skelton) Ellis at his home on the edge of Wayne County, TN. He grew up and made Hohenwald his life-long residence. John was married to Dorothy Faye (Williams) Ellis until her unexpected passing in 1958. Years later, he married Janie Louise (Brewer) Ellis. They were married until her passing in 2020. He was known to many people as “the State Farm Man” for over forty years. He worked at State Farm in Hohenwald until his retirement. John was one of the most civic-minded individuals you would meet. He was a member of any organization that helped the community in some way. These include the Lions Club, Hohenwald Jaycees, Lewis County Band Boosters, Lewis County Football Boosters, and other various organizations. He was especially involved with all Lewis County Athletics. Above all, he and his wife were dedicated members of the Hohenwald Church of Christ where they served God for many years.
He is survived by his sons, Mike (Nancy) Ellis, of Columbia, TN, Steve (Cindy) Ellis, of Franklin, TN, his daughters, Karen (David) Jackson, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Cheryl (Steve) Hopper, of Atlanta, GA. Also, he leaves behind seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
His parents, first wife, and second wife precede him in death.
Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM and once again on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home – Lewis County.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the McDonald Funeral Home – Lewis County Chapel. Bill McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in the Swiss Cemetery, Hohenwald, TN.
